Totaled my A3 last week :( so time to start over

Found a 2008 A4 with 60k miles and clean af inside and out and first things first that front plate has to go.
Has anyone put the black plate filler on a stock gray grill? Was wondering if it would look good or if the gray backing would be too noticeably different, cant find just a plain gray filler without chrome strips

I can't answer your question as I don't run a plate filler (thanks Oregon), but what's wrong with the chrome strips? I personally would much rather have the grey filler with chrome than a black filler on a grey grille. It would match the trim on the car too..

There's the stock grayish one and then the TI grille that is blacked out.

To answer OP's question, it definitely looks wonky when you run a black filler plate on the gray grille. I'd say it looks worse than just leaving the front plate, but that's me. I will see if I can find a pic for you, but it's definitely noticeable.

    Edit: pic

You're best bet is getting a whole grille assembly from eBay. Even swap it out with the black honey comb or RS4 style grille.

I agree with Sanjman. I just got a Chinese mesh grille on eBay for my S6. The fitment was perfect, and indistinguishable from OEM. It cost me $250, and I got it in under two weeks.
