Any opinions on how to raise a B5 to get a higher clearance? (Rallycar look)

I've got two A4s one of them is a B5 and my DD a B8. Since the B8 is already lowered I thought I could make the B5 look quite different, I'd like a more rally look with the purpose of being able to drive in modest trails and/or plain beaches. I'm definitely getting a shortened oil pan, but I'd like to get some advice in the tires/wheels department as well as shocks/coilovers. Right now the B5 is on 18s (wheels) with dents and marks, so it doesn't really bother me to get them dirtier. Not looking to abuse it anyway, just being able to getting in and out of sand without getting stuck. (This has nothing to do with fact that a guy with a Land Rover DL3/DL2 told me that there was no way I could drive on the beach. 😆

And with some taller tires, get some decent clearance

i would get some 15" wheels so you can air out the tires to drive on sand. airing out the 18" will do didly

The quickest and cheapest way is to put the shock/strut in the lathe and machine a higher ring for the c-clip that holds the spring seat. I raised mine ~2" over the highest setting. It could go a little higher.

This picture is them on the lowest setting vs the new higher setting.

After that, I got stuck a few times due to not being lifted enough and the b5 front being so far ahead of the wheels (pic shows that lol)

So I made custom set of front coilovers

They lifted the front more, but also gave me more down-travel too

The rear has "lift blocks" and coilovers with long soft springs, for lots of down-travel also. That pic is with them spun all the way down.

If your real goal is to drive on the beach, get wide wheels and tires. You want lots of surface area to float on top of the sand. Lifting your car will not help this.

Which engine do you have 6 or 4 cylinder? If it's a 6 cylinder get some S4 springs on it that'll give it a lift. I know a guy who did that for RallyCross purposes, was planning it on mine but I got a 1.8 so it would make front higher because of the lighter engine.

    Yes. I like burnouts/brakestands, a lot

I've been learning how to drift for the past few years too. I plan on actually being on a track this spring/summer

You can also slide a pipe over the shock body to raise the spring seat up without fancy tools, lol.

damn that thing makes me want to do that to an A4... of course keep it AWD though for a sweet ride to take to the slopes! What size of tires and wheels are you running on that bad boy, if you don't mind me asking?
