Id like to gather some info on on longevity on these cars. Mabey post whatever service history you might know and kind of paint a picture of how these cars are in a long term sense. Might be useful to limit to cars above 150k? I think we have a good idea how life is under 150k.

    List things like
    Milage
    Mods
    Type of usual driving
    Maint history
    Problems
    Ect.

    Ok me first i guess.

    2009 a4 2.0
    235,000 mi
I travel for a living, and drive about 60-80k per year
Apr stg 2 done in march of 2016 at 182,000 mi, now in nov of 2016 at 235,000.
    Cone filter
    3.0 d intercooler
    Boost gauge
    Forge dv spacer
    Mesh grill
    Sport spring drop
    Wheels tires.
    Maint done before me was;
    Stg 1 oil consumption 98k
    Stg 2 oil consumption 128k
    1st turbo replacement 137k
    I bought at 181kmi and the maint ive done is;
Oil changes on or before 10k intervals 5-40w synth
Burns no oil. Leaks enough to notice a dirty engine not enough to mark a driveway.
    Upper cont arms 181kmi
Timing chain tensioner update 209k mi
Timing chain hopped a tooth 225k replaced chain, guides ect. I Totally lucked out no bent valvetrain.
2nd turbo replaced at 234k due to cracked exhaust manifold by wastegate flapper car had p0299 code
I get about 20k on each set of tires so im on the third set since march.

Alot of my driving id just cruise control miles but i do flog the little bastard in town.

    235k miles.... chill bruh

On another note thats pretty impressive. I'm curious as to why you had to get new upper control arms. were they stock or did you upgrade them?

I'd guess he got his done for the same reason I'm getting mine done. Around 80 k the bushings in the arms start cracking due to a flaw in design. So ur choices are to press in new bushings or just get aftermarket control arms. Mine are cracking at 69k

wow that's alot. this is miles right, not kilometers? lol. but impressive, and makes me feel good i also have an 09 2.0T and wanting to keep this car as long as i can, seems like 200k+ miles is pretty attainable, and i'm glad to see other than the turbo and timing, nothing else really went wrong with it? is the transmission still the original? and has the transmission had any fluid flushing/draining or anything like that or is it just running off the original fluid and everything else untouched?

I thought I drove a lot for work!! I have an 09 avant with 165,000 miles.

New engine at 85k due to oil consumption. 2 new lower curved control arms...other than that, I roll it daily with no problems.

I've replaced a couple of door lock actuators (The porsche branded ones are the same, and half the price), but meh...I don't really count those as mechanical problems. The drivetrain has been flawless.

Coming up soon, I'm going to go through and replace all the fluids, and go stage 2.

I only have 43,000 miles on my 2013 so I can only dream of 200k plus miles. But that is awesome. How about carbon cleaning?

Ya thats miles. No trans issues yes its original, i drained and refilled but no filter swap. I know its not super impressive, just looking to see maint stuff with cars above 150k range. I know there are cars out there with this kind of milage but i know its not that common.
Control arms had s ton of slop, anytime you went near the brake pedal it lane changed.

Ya lots of highway miles. Ive checked the carbon 3 times now with a bore scope. Ive never done it and its still pretty clean, not like running meth clean but not built up. Ive never run any thing less than 91.

I've heard that if you do mostly highway miles you are less likely to need a carbon cleaning. Also you do need to wind her up now and again. How is your fuel milage @Snoogie?

Ya i wind it up around town still pulls pretty good. I get 30-35 mpgs on freeway, faster than 80 it dips into 20's.
With the rack and box it stays in the 20's.[IMG][/IMG]

My '09 2.0T currently has just under 118k miles on the odometer, and I have had two separate carbon issues to date. The first occurred around 55k, but after taking the issue to Audi of America the service was covered free of charge. Around 115k, carbon cleaning was yet again required. The first instance may have been the result of using low grade fuel, however that was also during a period of time when I was logging many miles on the highway. From 55k to 115k, I was using mostly Shell and/or Exxon gas and avoiding the discount fuels, however my travel varied between local and highway.

That doesn't sound too bad. I almost always use Chevron fuel. I wonder too how climate affects the carbon issue. I live in SoCal.

This is fantastic. I sold my B5 with 211k miles on it and had a log of high mileage replacement items, wear and tear part lifetimes, fuel mileage data, etc.

The two points I find most interesting are the miles the for the oil consumption fixes and timing components, even with the 10k intervals.

I will be watching this thread very closely.
    2013 A6 3.0T - Slightly better than poverty package.

    Past:
    2009 A4 2.0T Avant - Totaled
    2000 A4 1.8T - Sold
    1999 Millenia S - Sold, though it should've been crushed 'n cubed
1997 A4 1.8T - Totaled, repaired, sold years later better than before
1990 Maxima - Totaled from hail dents
    1987 Maxima - Sold
1986 Golf Diesel - Rusted and fell apart

    Bumping on an old thread...

    Have you hit 300k yet?

My 12' just rolled 74k and hasn't given me any major issues (knock on wood). I've been thinking of getting out of it for something with lower mileage, but then I come across threads like these and feel inspired to keep it. I'm also curious and would like to see more high mileage examples.

235k miles, "you are my hero" (Ferris Bueller).

Impressive! I'm hoping to get that milage out of my b8, already replaced the engine with a B8.5

But didn't you do an engine swap? So isn't that body mileage not motor mileage. Still great to see that kind of mileage on a b8

so if you did get an engine swap, how many miles on the current engine? still impressive, i'm at 126k and thought i had a lot, good to see these lasting so well.

300k is impressive, but if I read correctly the car is on its 3rd turbo, 2nd motor (rebuilt), and just narrowly missed being on its 3rd motor at 225k with a chain slip.

2010 a4 k04 105K, desperately needing new piston rings as I burn oil, and really worried about the chain tensioner. have all new forged internals/valvetrain, just need new timing and gaskets. ill be doing the full timing instead of just tensioner. hoping my block is ok.

As I've been saying to other people... don't wait on that chain tensioner! I swear every couple weeks somebody new posts on here that they've blown a motor due to timing chain issues. Common to see it happen around 100k give or take. I was at 108k when I did mine and I was so nervous... it felt like a ticking time bomb! On the plus side, once you get it done you should notice the engine runs smoother and you may even notice just a little bit more power since everything will be running in perfect time as designed rather than running slightly out of time with a stretched chain.

I am curious though... how did you end up disassembling your motor to install forged internals without also replacing the faulty piston rings while you were in there? Was it not burning oil when you did that upgrade?

Solid thread. My lease is just about up on my 2014. It has 51k on the clock. I've been debating whether I keep it or trade it back in. If I get rid of it, I'm considering something like a Mazda 3 5 door or GTI. After reading this thread I may decide to hang onto it though. Subscribed!

I haven't done anything yet, that's what im saying im going to do. im going to rebuild the motor soon to include the piston rings and tensioner. I just happen to have bought all new IE forged internals and valvetrain.

Gotcha! That will be a nice upgrade! Heck, after that you probably won't need to do anything to that motor for a long time aside from general maintenance.

On another note thats pretty impressive. I'm curious as to why you had to get new upper control arms. were they stock or did you upgrade them?
Op, Your thread is old but reaching out to you to see if you changed your own upper control arms or paid a shop.

Have an 09 Avant with 109K and going to be putting new shocks and springs in soon, from experience from doing my 04 Passat 4Mo years ago the bolt holding the ball joints in is most likely frozen in the piece coming up from wheel spindle.

Any tricks for getting the bolt free ?

    Thanks

    Issues:
CPO warranty ended early December, no issues for 5 years, took to dealer for every scheduled maintenance.
Once warranty ended, Christmas night, issues started.
    - 27K miles - 3 different tows to the dealership
    - Fuel Pump
    - Fuel Pump
    - Fuel Pump Control Module

My view on the "longevity" part definitely has changed and, for me, Audi's are only good under warranty. Once it's done, trade it in for something else.
You shouldn't have to feel like you are "rolling the dice" whenever you step into your car.

Original owner, brought in to the same Audi dealer for service every 10k since the first 5k checkup.

    Issues:
Oil Consumption Test in 2013, but they ended up not doing anything.
    ECM replaced at 100k ($2k)
Oil Consumption Test ongoing now, oil indicator comes on every ~800 miles. It's at the dealer now for part 2. Let's see...

Sounds like they replaced the fuel pump twice when what they needed to replace the whole time was the control module. If you truly don't trust it sell it. With only 28k miles you should be able to get a good amount for it.

I know people that will never trust a car after it breaks down one time. What car doesn't have issues?

My mother in law just told my wife her car was a "lemon" because it had a miss and needed a tune up (at 175k miles) Wtf?
