    Exhaust Ideas

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have read several of the other forum posts on this and everyone has a different idea on what to do.

I have a 2008 B7 A4 2.0T and was wondering what kind of exhaust I should get for my car to make it louder and sound aggressive.

I don't want to exactly ruin the engine doing so, so I want some serious recommendations and some videos of what your car sounds like now and what kind of exhaust/muffler setup you have now!

I had thought of just straight piping it or X Piping, but I didn't find any videos pertaining to my car. So help out guys, what would you do/ have you done to your car exhaust wise?

I would definitely not do anything with straight pipe. Honestly that shit makes me cringe on a civic, and definitely has no place whatsoever on an Audi (or any other remotely nice car imo).

A really budget friendly setup would be: test pipe (I'd prefer an HFC) -> JHM Downpipe-Y -> OEM B6/B7 S4 exhaust. You could also use any aftermarket B6/7 S4 exhaust. Either way you'll get a much more aggressive note and highly increased flow without sounding like you have a small you know what

Please don't straight pipe it. These engines sound terrible when straight piped. Also, an x-pipe is useless when you have a single bank of cylinders. Buy the Europaparts exhaust and pair it with a HFC and you'll be good.

I agree, don't straight pipe it. My car right now is straight piped and I hate it. I only did it cause I had an exhaust leak. I used to have an 08 B7 and did a custom exhaust. I took the resonator out and put a Y-pipe with 2 flowmaster super 40 mufflers. It was honestly the bet sounding exhaust I've ever had on any of my cars. I admit the drone was a little bad on the highways but I loved it haha also, I think it was 2.5 inch piping. I wish I had a video of it but I don't:/

Deleting the stock mufflers gives a very reasonable volume level with only minimal drone (only under heavy load at low RPMs). I've not heard one in person with the factory resonator deleted, but I imagine that could potentially lead to increased drone and/or some unpleasant frequencies.

    Plenty of videos on YouTube!

Nice, after watching a lot of videos, why do you say not to delete the resonator with the muffler?

Full turbo back. 3 inch dp, 034 testpipe, 2.5 inch the rest of the way back, dual muffler, quad tip. I'd go custom if you have a good shop.

I would lol, but I'm a broke college student trying to do what I can with what extra money isn't going toward maintenance fees. How much would that set up run me?

I got a quote from a local shop for $800 installed for a custom setup, but I do not believe that included a test pipe/hfc.

If you ran a cheap test pipe with the JHM Y-Pipe and an S4 exhaust, it would probably cost you around $700 (maybe less if you can find a free S4 catback--members here occasionally give them out for free if you pick up), plus whatever installation charges.

    Same here lol.

Cost me about $1000 though, maybe a little more. Definitely not cheap. It was the first thing I did when I got the car.

I have a muffler and resonator delete on mine and think it sounds great. I've received many compliments on how good it sounds. Of course this is all personal opinion. It is aggressive for a "luxury car", but that's part of what I like about it.

I've just put a test pipe and Billy Boat cat back sports exhaust on my 1.8t and could not be happier with the sound and performance, I highly recommend it.

How do y'all feel about a regular muffler delete? Just the two back ones and fill in the pipe missing between and not touching anything else? Maybe new tips but nothing special.

Even on stock exhaust with just a test pipe my B7 has a decent note to the exhaust. What I have been leaning toward doing is a set up with 2 of these mufflers possibly and a resonator, should be fairly low cost:

Another vote here for JHM y-pipe Get a test pipe or hfc of your choice, used if you're lucky. Get a stock S4 rear section and you can upgrade that later to any aftermarket S4 exhaust. I was running JHM test pipe and y-pipe with first a stock s4 rear section then a Stasis (now Europa parts) rear section. I'll be doing the same thing on my current B7

    Fixed it for ya!

OP here is a great example of what our JHM Full TBE sounds like on my Avant.

This is the B7 S4 Exhaust:

    Here is the B6 S4 System on Jake's B7 A4:

Here are the products contained in the systems!

Exhaust - Race Pipe (JHM) 3" Catless Race Pipe for B7-A4 2.0T

    Downpipe-Y (JHM) 3" to 2.5" for B6-B7 S4 Cat-Back on B7-A4 2.0T Manual-CVT

OR If you have an Automatic you will need this option for the Downpipe:
    Downpipe-Y (JHM) 2.75" to 2.5" for B6-B7 S4 Cat-Back on B7-A4 2.0T Auto-Tip

    JHM B6 S4 Stainless Steel 2.5" w X-Pipe by FI

OR if you want to run the S4 Valance and have Quad Tips

    JHM B7 S4 Stainless Steel 2.5" w X-Pipe by FI

for those with a tiptronic transmission I would wait until next week as we have a very limited and extremely aggressive price on 4 exhaust units... more details coming later this week.

I can say that we will have full exhaust units for the B7 2.0t tiptronic possibly under $500...

I've heard this, and helped mount it before a short low RPM run. This exact setup is likely going on both my cars this spring.

Do I really need to buy from a name brand here. I mean, it is just a pipe and the extender for O2 sensor is cheap. Pros and cons of eBay vs name brand?

Ehh get a custom bent one. should run around 500. Just buy an ebay resonator or a glasspack muffler to quiet it down a bit.

I have full catback exhaust from stasis (or labeled eropaparts exhaust now). So it might be a lil loud. Will custom bent fit a manual transmission or is that a factor?

The downpipe is the only thing affected with automatic vs manual. everything is the same. Ask my how I know... My friend has a adi a4 b7 automatic and I have a manual. Everything after the downpipe is the SAME.
