Rain Sensor Rear View Mirror Popped off Windshield

Daughter hit a pot hole and the mirror popped off the glued on windshield bracket. This is a 2008 A4 Quattro that has the rain sensor under the mirror. The rain sensor holder is still glued onto the windshield.

I saw a couple YouTube videos where I should be able to slide the mirror onto the glued on bracket and turn it clockwise to lock it into place. But this does not seem to be working for me. It acts as if the three mirror spring tangs that engage the windshield bracket are bent and not catching the bracket's slot. The slot does not seem to be broken.

Before I end up breaking the windshield, I wanted to check in here to see if there is something I'm missing. Perhaps I'll try bending the tabs, or just take it to a body shop or dealer.

You have to apply pressure against the windshield while the mirror flush against the bracket and twist. Sometimes it takes several attempts to get it to catch. It not just bring it to any auto glass replacement company for them to re-. Most probably will do it just out of courtesy and not charge

And be very careful. One wrong move and whaaaaack! $$$$!

I swung by a glass shop today and they reinstalled the mirror. The tech also thought is was unstable so they bent the three spring taps on the mirror, and it now seems much more solid. The spring clip is removable, so when the dealer opens up Monday, I'll see if I can buy a replacement clip without buying the entire mirror.

Dont waste your time buying a new spring clips. its a common practice on those clips before we reback onto the windshield
