    How screwed could I be?

Had a ton of free time today, and decided to tackle the check valves/oil sprayer/valley pan gasket/JHM intake spacers.

Long story short here... I finished up the whole valley pan. I was about to pop the intake manifold back on, and my helper broke a glass bulb right on the driver side valve cover. Needless to say, glass is now in the intake ports. I know I can vacuum it out. That's not my worry. My worry is that the very last intake port on the driver's side was slightly open. I'll be very surprised if no small glass shards fell in.

How screwed am I, if I'm right? These motors already have issues with cylinder scoring, so I can't imagine this having a good outcome. Wasn't really planning on getting a new motor quite yet...

I wouldn't worry about it too much. That glass will blow right out of the cylinder once you fire it up. I've seen all kinds of junk go through running engines - rags, bolts, non-combustible substances (Borax...). If you're really worried you could strip it down but I wouldn't.

This is just a suggestion but i had a nut fall into a cylinder on a old 1970 Dodge Dart and we got it out by taking the spark plug out and turning the engine over with the starter. shot the sucker right across the shop and solved that issue.

    just a thought

i've had sand fall into an open valve before. i cobbled together a series of tubes that could go from the shop vac into the spark plug hole, then poked around in there. i wasn't satisfied (mah poor cylinder walls!) so i alternated with spraying a light oil in and sucking it out with the shop vac to try and stiry up any remaining debris.

I'd remove the spark plug and vacuum the cylinder properly, and then check with a borescope

Blew it all out with air. Should be good. Quite a bit of glass was sitting in that last port.

Reviving this instead of making a new post.

Is there a way of getting oil into the head before starting after doing the valley pan and everything? I want to start the car for a minute or two before doing an oil change to clear any dirt or small debris out.

pull the fuel pump fuse out (# 28 iirc) ,
crank for 5-10 seconds at a time. (let your starter/wires cool down)
