    Rim cleaner, what's too aggressive?

As u can see brake dust and some tar are still on thr inside of my rims and my OCD is kicking in hard lol

I used APC diluted 4:1 and then hit it with a clay bar. Didn't clean the rims all that well. Tried APC again and let sit for about 5 mins, still same outcome.

Also tried Meguiare's rim cleaner, didn't do jack. At what point should I try an acidic wheel cleaner?

Sonax is the best from what I hear. I use a brush and a very liberal amount of chemical guys signature series wheel cleaner because it is so cheap.

I use P21S wheel gel, leave it sit for awhile before removing it. And for tar/asphalt residue and old glue from stick-on weights that have been removed (leaving the sticky tape behind), I use Turtle Wax Bug and Tar Remover.

Iron-X then mineral spirits and a MF Rag. Plastic razor blades and MS will remove the glue from those weights. You then should polish them with a buffer and an orange pad. You'll need a rotary/ball mount or a Flex 3401 as a regular DA will just stall. Worst case do them by hand. Been there done that too. Just did my summer wheels today. Once Polished use a wheel coating.

Meant to say I tried that too, maybe I didn't let it sit on there long enough? Usually I cleaned the inside of the rims every month but ended up not doing it for like 3 to 4 months. Also we all know the OEM brake pads create stupid amounts of dust.

For the tar deposits a bug/tar specific product will be best. Kerosene and Diesel fuel also work great on tar without harming the finish.

few products to try, if after all this, its still havent worked.. then maybe its time to consider that the ''damage'' is permanent lol!

    sonax wheel cleaner
    clay bar
glue remover 3m or any other type of product like this. ( glue/tar remover is similar)
polish section with a MF towel.

If after all this, its still not gone, then i seriously doubt a super acidic cleaner will do any better.. time to accept it or repaint lol!

Bring one over on Friday or Saturday. We'll see what's like and work out something.

I use the SONAX, but you have to make sure the wheel is bone dry when using it. Many don't realize this and then they're disappointed with the result. I would try the IronX as mentioned above and then hit it with the SONax once the wheel is dry and cool.

I use Adams's Polishes wheel cleaner and it works great, i've used sonax before and this works just as good if not better at a lower cost. Also have their brushes and some wheel woolies which get in the barrels with no problems. If anyone needs any i have a great discount on it.

sonax power formula is quite impressive, after a wash i coat with the new sonax protector too. with the protector applied every couple days i can just hose off brake dust.

Here's the definitive guide to wheel cleaning, from a master. Probably more about the subject than most people would ever want to know, but the obsessive-compulsive types here will surely find this info enlightening.
