Motul 8100 Xcess - Change Interval Question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello All,

Im sure this has been beaten to a pulp at this point, but I am on the road and cannot do a proper search. Long story short, the previous owner of my car did oil changes through the dealership every 5k miles. I have owned it for about 5k miles, and an oil change was done at my 35k service when I first picked up the car from the dealership as it is a CPO.

I had supplied Motul 8100 xcess, and i have been running this initial oil change for about 5,100 miles currently. I had originally planned to do a change every 5k miles to keep up the OCD maintenance, however I am looking for insights on how long you guys have gone with this oil and any analysis info that has been retrieved. Given these cars can go to 10k miles (although I dont want to) - I am looking for a sweet spot in-between the 5-10k interval without throwing quality oil down the drain.

    Thank you for your insights!

I do mine every 5k. I have Audi care so that takes care of every other oil change.

I'm Stage 2 though and drive my car pretty aggressively. If it wasn't for that I would probably do just the recommended 10k interval.

I have 5.2k on my clock since my lost oil change currently and the oil still looks good. My OCD just necessitates the oil change. (I'm doing it next weekend)

Good to hear - I dont drive my car too aggressively and it always receives a full heat cycle before it is turned off. Thinking I will wait till around 7/8k miles on this change and go from there. I just dont want to cause any preventable damage in an attempt to save a few bucks here. Any other insights would be appreciated.

If you don't have one already pick up a dipstick so you can properly check the oil.

We always recommend 5k intervals for boosted cars. Forced induction always contaminates oil faster than N/A. I have no problem letting my N/A V8 go to 8k or so but on my boosted cars I do 5k religiously. When it comes down to it it is cheap insurance on an expensive machine.

If you want to find out if you are good pushing it a little, get an oil analysis at the interval you'd like to stretch it to.

Definitely would like to see something like this as well. I tend to believe that this 5K mile rule is just an old wives tale, yet no one knows why its 5K miles...funny in Canada people always say 5K Kms too.

With oil technology getting better and better one would think the durations could be extended. I always ran 10K kms and more on my GC8 with full synthetic for almost a decade, no worse for wear..

Ill be running Motul here shortly as well, plan on running 10K mile / 15K Kms intervals.

If you're bringing the car up to temp for each drive thats good. I'd think 7500mile intervals would be pretty safe as well judging by other people's UOAs. 5K is ocd but may be worth it if it helps you sleep at night or just give you an excuse to inspect the car more regularly for any other issues while you're at it. I havent heard of any issues with the B8 S4 like the old NA RS4 used to have with fuel contamination in the oil.

I've been changing mine every 5k. I only drive the S4 about 6k a year though (I work from home).
How do you like the Mogul oil in the S4? What weight do you use?

It has been great so far, not much noticable change but everything feels to be running smooth as silk and i have not had any burn at all in a bit over 5k miles now. I am using the 5w-40

Thanks for all the responses, I think I will wait till around 6-7K and then do a change. Better safe than sorry and it is indeed cheap insurance on an expensive engine
