    A7 Axle Nut Rusted

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I bought my car from the east coast and for a vehicle with under 20k miles the Axle nuts look very corroded.

I was planning on either replacing them or taking them out, soaking them in a rust remover and then painting.

Anyone do this? Can I simply remove them? Anyone know the tools or torque spec?

    Thanks

Thanks. Yeah, I know it's not mechanically dangerous, but as you said, it bothers me

Every time I take the wheel off it yells at me.

So there is nothing I need to know when removing it? Any idea the torque spec?

Shouldn't be any special considerations but a breaker bar. I did a quick search while driving and came up with only other model specs. A little serving you'll find it.

I wouldn't remove it. Clean it with a wire brush and give it a coat of navel jelly. Paint it after the rust is neutralized.

My reference book says "Drive axle to wheel hub bolt - 200 Nm plus an additional 180*" It also says to replace fastener, it is not reusable.

I'm just going to use some rust restorer and then some paint on it now. Not going to remove it.
