    Thermostat bad? Need help

Hi I have a 2009 b8 a4... my fan has been staying on after i shut it offf even after a 4 min drive. Yesterday while driving the temp Gauge went up to almost red line stayed there came down... I replaced the coolant temp sensor... and the temp gauge is still getting up to 3/4 hot and it has always been at the 1/2 mark once warm.

I am going to try and replace the thermostat next. Can I do this without removing the whole water pump? And is there another sensor or something else I should check first? Anythermostat removal write ups...

    Thanks

How is you coolant level? If it is staying at the proper level you could check the drive belt that turns the waterpump.

Anyone know if you can remove the thermostat without taking the water pump off?

The thermostat can be replaced without removal of the water pump. The replacement thermostat fixed my problem so far.

There is one hex and one Alen head screw...holding it in...it is a very tight fit and a pain to get back in but can be done. Other items(hoses going to water pump and brace that supports the intake manifoild) were removed to gain access to the hex screw

how difficult of a job is it to do the waterpump or the thermostat per say, doesnt look that hard, ive had worse. I may get stuck doing it, not sure if mine is weeping coolant or not on this car i just bought, and they are only covering me for 1000 miles or 30 days.
