    Unhappy Mechatronic Unit/DSG Failure

Today I became a member of the Mechatronic Unit Failure.

    2012 Audi S4: 67,894 miles

A little about my situation: I was at a stop light and all of a sudden the "Gearbox Malfunction" popped up and immediately transferred my car into Neutral while the shifter was still in Drive. I couldn't move the shifter, it was frozen in place. still had steering, still had braking. I turned the car off, only then was I able to shift it from Drive to Park. Once on Park, I turned the car back on and was able to freely move the shifter back to Drive and then it drove perfectly fine. The car drove smoothly, no noises from the transmission, smooth gear shifts. Fast forward a couple hours of my car sitting in a parking lot. After work I drove home which only takes about a mile. Within that mile my S4 did the exact same thing 4 more times. Once again no grinding noises, still had steering and braking.

I called Achtuning Shop in Redmond, they've seen it happen but it was only one specific code and that they couldn't diagnose unless they could do a scan. Then called an Audi Dealership, they've dealt with it multiple times, and that the fix would be priced at around $5K.

Has anyone experienced this issue? If so what was the end result? I appreciate everyone's time and consideration. Thank you!

So sorry to hear about this. What was the outcome for your repair?

I'm considering an S4 but keep hearing about these failures.
