    Coilovers or Matched Spring/Shock combo

I am looking to lower my car about 1-1.5 inches and keep a good ride quality as it is my daily driver. I don't track my car I just am doing this for the aesthetics but I don't know if I should go for a set of good spring/shocks or coils. I don't want to cheap out on suspension but I don't want to spend extra if it's not necessary. I just don't know what would be best for my use of the car.

If you go coil overs you can adjust it. So it's nice. A new spring and shock is not a bad way to go but you can't change it at all. So do more research before you decide.

a set of springs and struts will work. if you want a little bit more adjustability, a set of coils will work. Since you're not looking for track use, the search is a little bit different. Not sure what you're looking for, as typically most setups are designed to be slightly stiffer.

A cheaper set of coilovers might be the right answer, just gotta find one that's not track oriented. the used coilover market might also be a good place to look. even H&R springs and bilstein struts are reported to be fairly stiff and track focused -- although the drop height is about what you're looking for. http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...ilstein-shocks

can do some searching. obviously a lot of people like the ohlins for DD purposes too, but I imagine you can find something that will work for you. The H&R coilovers I had were not the most compliant things around. A lot of coilovers (and german suspensions in general) are overdamped for my liking, leaving it feeling overly stiff.

finding shock dynos like those referenced in this link: http://audisrs.com/archive/pss9-dyno__o_t__t_25636.html
are the best source for getting what you like. obviously there's some background knowledge you need to pickup in order to 1) understand the dyno readings 2) understand the compromises in the real world

FWIW-Eibach ProKIT springs using Bilstien HD (Yellow body) Struts will give you what you need----Couple this with a larger rear sway bar (19mm) Neuspeed and you're all set...This is what I did to mine back in late 2000 and I'm still using them with some 67,000 miles of use....
The ride is a bit stiffer, the vehicle handles better and the gap around the wheel well is correct.....
I'm also running with 15mm wheel spacers on 18"x 8 "rims with a 35mm offset..
    Here's a photo-

This is the spring/shock combo I'm running and I've been daily driving my S4.
