Coil Conversion,ICM Delete kit 034 vs ECS

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Guys,
Anyone got any experience on the Coil conversion ICM delete kits offered from 034MS vs ECS Tuning
    https://store.034motorsport.com/coil...ire-coils.html
    https://www.ecstuning.com/b-ecs-part...s/002686ecskt/

-While the 034 uses OEM Beru coils from C5 RS6 and ECS utilizes the FSI/TSI coils (I know FSI coils can be gotten from 034 as well)
-So basically which coils to prefer FSI or C5 RS6 coils..? My money would prob be on th FSI coils

Currently running a freshly rebuilt, yet again, Stg 3 -00 S4 with essentially the 034 kit. looking to upgrd the ignition

    Thx,
    -Fred

Im currently running the 034 kit with fsi red coils and some platinum ngk's. all is well. Have heard good stuff about the rs6 bolt down coils. Would go with rs6 bolt downs next time around to see for myself

I ran the ECS kit on my B5 S4 for quite awhile before I sold it and never had an issue. I loved the plug and play all in one harness per side plus cleaned up the look of the engine bay so that's always a plus! If I had to do it again I would stick with the ECS kit.

I preferred the ECS kit if only because it kept the wiring cleaner looking. I wasn't a fan of 034's solution where you effectively have this bundle of wires to find a place for at the coilpacks.

As far as the coilpacks go, they are effectively the same. The major difference is how they are installed - 034's have the BERU bolt-down coilpacks whereas ECS's kit has a spacer plate you bolt to the valve cover and then install the coilpacks.

If anything, I prefer the FSI/TFSI coilpacks just for being newer, cheaper, and easier to obtain. You don't even need the red-top coilpacks as its mostly an aesthetic choice.

The one gripe I have with the ECS kit is that they did a poor job of planning where the adapting harness go. The adapting harness on my driver side ended up touching my exhaust manifold melting some of the shrink wrapping but thankfully not harming the wiring. Still a concern that they didn't think that part through. I used some wire ties to hold it up away from the manifold but should be kept in mind when choosing your solution.

Obviously the ultimate solution is just modifying your harness to use the new style plugs, removing the ICMs, and then using either the C5 RS6 bolt down coilpacks or a FSI/TFSI coilpack with a spacer (also readily available)

Yes here we go again... Nothing wrong with 2.0T coils...

FWIW, the ECS kit is nicer in every way IMO.
