    MacBook Pro/Air and Vag-com?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Didn't realize until after I bought the cable, but apple isn't supported by Ross Tech. Only option is to run Windows parallel or buy a cheap Windows laptop for logging. How many of you have had success using MacBooks and Windows parallel? If not, any suggestions for something else?

I would not recommend using a MacBook Air. I had one, downloaded VMware fusion 7 or 8, and it took the laptop an hour to do a task that could have been done in 5 minutes with a MacBook Pro.

Thanks for the heads up brotha! I have a Pro and my girl has an Air so I could use either, if that makes a difference.

You could buy a cheap ($99-$150) windows tablet to have a dedicated logging device. If you go this route I would stick with the a brand name like Dell or HP. When you get into the cheaper tablets the chipsets aren't always the best and commination can be sporadic.

I bought a refurbished Dell Venue for flashing at home and I have not had any issues.

EDIT: Just an idea for flashing with a tablet: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...blet-and-Mount

I bought a windows tablet for vag com and was unimpressed. I find it much easier to navigate the coding with a laptop.

    I bought this: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-i...?skuId=4475000

The red one is out of stock but they have other colors and it's only like $129. Runs vagcom flawlessly and that's all I use it for. I would highly recommend it.

I run Windows 7 using VMWare on my Macbook Pro for Vag-Com without issues. Sometimes it can be slow communicating with certain modules but I'm not sure if that's the setup or my car

The other option is to set up your Macbook to run Windows with Bootcamp, giving you a true Windows operating system on single disk partition. I have done this with my last two Macbooks and have experienced zero issues using or logging with Vag-Com.

I downloaded a free copy of Windows 10 from Microsoft and installed it on my MacBook Pro in a small partition of the HD. I use bootcamp and just boot into windows when I need to do anything with Vag-Com since running parallels hurts processing power. Runs great.

Is it always asking you to verify the product key? Can you PM me a link to the free copy? Thanks.

I used to use Parallels without a problem till I decided to just get a cheapo Windows PC to leave in car rather than my expensive MBP Retina :)

I use VAGCOM under Parallels and it's fine. No issues. Currently running latest version under Parallels 10 with latest OSX version and it works fine. Windows 7 in the VM.

No, never. Microsoft allows free use of Windows 10 without a product key. They only catch is you can't customize any settings like desktop picture, menu layout, etc. No big deal if you are only using it for Auto diagnosis/tuning programs.

Just make sure you've got enough drive space; Window's can get greedy. Once it's installed you just hold the "Option" button at boot and it'll allow you to choose which OS you want to go to.

So you want a tutorial on how to install and configure not one but two applications, and you want them written out and posted online for you? Oh, ok. Good to know. You could however lighten up a bit and go buy a $100 tablet, install the application and then go from there. I bought a stream, which was too slow, then I bought a used surface pro specifically to work on my car. So instead of running around like your vag itches you can spend multiple hours watching those tutorials or you can buy a new laptop. I'll leave that for you to decide.

    MacBook Air and Vag-com?

VirtualBox is free and works great. Not as seamless as Parallels to setup but you can’t beat the price.

I got a garbage $50 windows tablet at frys and it’s so bad/slow/laggy/painful I never use it.

Not to get into an online pissing contest here but read this.........

So it's harder to setup and you're okay with that? You're rather NOT WATCH a youtube video on installing the previous option but you'll somehow figure out what is labeled as the more difficult app to install and configure??? Man I'm in a bazzaro world.

FYI either is dead easy to install and configure but I suppose you'll rather read through the install docs before watching any video's on going live.
