    Climate control

    Hello everyone,
I have bought this 2006 A6 3.2 Quattro a while ago, and I'm in need of some help with the climate control.
First of all, is there any way to have heat inside the car without using the climate control? It seems to me that there's no way to do it.
Then, if I press the heated seat button, the climate control starts.
The same happens when pressing the 'circulate' button.
I think these options should work independently of the climate control.
Please let me know your opinions.
    Thank you.

Heat without using the climate control? Like music without using the radio? I suppose you could start a small fire.....

I also find the turning on of the climate control when I turn the heated seat on to be an annoyance, albeit a fairly small one.

@cpredescu as you have discovered, it is not possible to turn on any function of the system without the entire climate control system coming on. The only option you have with the seat heater is to activate it and then manually set fan speed to the lowest possible setting.

That's not true. You can turn the heated seat on, then turn the climate control completely off leaving the seat on.

Hello hilmark2k, and thank you for your reply.
I meant having the heat without using the blower, like every single car that I use to own, Acura, Volvo, Honda, Chevrolet.

I guess I have to deal with this situation, though I find it very annoying.

When the engine is cold, and one wants to have just the heated seat on, what's the use of having cold air through the vents...

Yes, this is what I'm doing. I thought something was not right with the climate control, and asked for help here.
I have never seen such a non sense in a car.

Just set your temperature to Auto. I have been using it in all of my cars so I never have to worry of turning on/off the A/C or adjust the speed fan. It is very convenient IMO. It also knows when your car is cold so it is not going to blow a cold air at your until it warms up a bit
    Current rides:
    1. 2013 Hyundai Azera Tech 50k miles
    2. 2001 A8L 4.2 Quattro 211k miles

    Sold:
    1. 2007 A6 4.2 FSI Quattro 77k miles
    2. 2007 Acura TL Nav at 86k miles
    3. 1996 A6 Quattro at 155k miles

    Big ol' +1 on that.

Can't comment on other engines, but I get heat out of my 4.2 almost immediately. It's actually quite remarkable. I'd say within a minute of starting, I'm getting nice warm air.

Hi all, does anybody know how to properly disinfect air conditioning system on audi a6 4f. Despite regular filter change it smells, I have found some sprays at Berner and Würth, but they have no clue how to do it on Audi A6 4F. Any kind of feedback will be much appreciated.

Regular filter change.... Did you mean the cabin filters? Have you tried the carbon type filter to see if that helped? Maybe moisture is somehow getting in the ventilation system. Or, perhaps a leak from a window is causing a mildew/musty smell?

Yes, I know. But if press heated seats button, then the whole climate unit turns on. And then you have to turn it off, so you can have only the heated seats on. It's like scratching your right side of your head with your left hand... Very annoying, and idiotic design.

I concur. I don't like that the designer made the assumption that if I wanted one, I MUST want the other. No reason those two should be connected.

I do not understand why you do not just leave it in auto? As a previous poster stated, the CC is smart enough not to turn on the fan at high speed until it can blow warm air. There is a low level of circulation when you first start the car to make sure you get some fresh air but it is a very low level.

By the way, did you know that on a cold day if you are waiting in a parking lot to pick up a friend/spouse/child you can shut off the car and turn on the CC? The fan will come on as will a small water circulator pump too circulate the coolant and you can stay warm and toasty without running the engine.

Happens for me in early spring or late fall. Sometimes I'll even open the sunroof or crash the windows but want the heated seat. There's just no justifiable reason for the car to turn on the climate control when the heated sest is turned on.
