    VAG-COM for newbie

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm interested in making some minor tweaks with VAG-COM. I'm looking for suggestions as to what tool or software to buy and the best way to learn how to use it.

    Thanks in advance

You need to buy an official Ross Tech cable with their free software. Dont mess with a fake one. You can also buy Carista for minor tweaks, what are you looking to do?

    that cable

buy legit cable because when you sell the car you can sell the cable for $270-300 easily in the classifieds. they never go on sale. i find it so be a great deal for dealer level diagnostics and data logging capability.

Not sure what I want to do, likely just minor tweaks like display gear in D and S and lighting changes, nothing too heavy.

Thanks, I thought I read that ODB-eleven supports some VAG-COM functionality. Do you know anything about that?

Vcds can do a ton more though.

Cool thank you, lots of features available. Any idea if this would allow the D and S number indicator?

Carista and OBD-Elevan can do (or should do) all of the basic coding tweaks, and read and clear fault codes. Ross-Tech VCDS can do all that, plus all the hardcore coding tweaks, and logging. It really comes down to how much you really want to do over the long-term.

If you are ever planning on tuning the vehicle, logging is pretty easy and hugely beneficial. I'd recommend it for most people that have some basic level of technical understanding. If you only want to do minor tweaks or read fault codes, the others should be OK. If you go the Ross-Tech route, buy the real deal. Yes, it's more expensive, but it's guaranteed to work right, you'll be supporting the company that supports our platform, and as other have said, you can easily sell it down the road.

Is the Carista app the cheapest way to enable oil temp? I don't really have a need/want for the full Ross kit right now, but I'd like to have oil temp handy.
