    2012 Audi S5 - EPC Light

New to the forum.. Hopefully y'all can help! :)

I was driving and noticed my EPC light comes on. Drive felt okay until I got to a light and the idle seemed super rough... Car suddenly becomes a much rougher ride but fortunately make it home. Get it into the garage, turn it off for a few.. try to turn it back on and it won't start(it tries). So something is definitely up. I also noticed a weird oil/gas type of smell coming from the car. I plugged in my vag-com and scanned for issues.. Could y'all help determine what the problem is and best course of action to get it fixed? Unfortunately I don't have warranty and I'm wondering if taking it to any auto shop can do the trick?

Looking at the VCDS scan log, it seems like there is a problem with the fuel rail/system pressure being low and a malfunctioning fuel pressure sensor. I suspect bad fuel pump or pressure sensor. Don't just take your S5 to any auto shop. Look for a reputable indy shop that specialise in Audi vehicles. A google search produced a handful of hits but not sure of their reputations. Get a referral from other Houston-based members in this forum. You'll find them under the Texas regional sub-forum.

I didn't notice the exhaust being smokey. Just the gas smell mostly is what stood out.

Check if your high pressure fuel pumps are leaking, im currently dealing with that problem. They leak from the sensor side on mine, not the fuel rails. That could cause gas small. If not then it's probably the pressure sensor causing all this.

EPC Light came on this morning as well (2011 S5). After starting, all seemed fine but after acceleration the car began to stutter and exhaust became smokey.

    Any thoughts/ideas fellas?

It could mean several things. It is best to pull up the DTC using VCDS so readers would have a better idea of the suspect part or issue.

    Hello,

I have a 2012 Audi S5 and my slave cylinder was recently replaced and now the car won't start and I only have an EPC code on the dash. The starter now doesn't click or turn as if its dead. I have to pop the clutch to get the car started. The car was starting fine even before the slave cylinder was replaced. The dealer is telling me I need a new starter but Im not buying that since they want 2500 to change it because of the location of it on the 4.2 8 cylinder. 15 hours of labor they say.

Anyone seen this issue before ?

Well, I suggest checking the Starter fuse to see if it is OK. Next, check the starter relay to see if that's OK. If both are OK then the starter is most likely the culprit. Before suspecting a bad starter, check all connections to it and find out if all are secured in place.

If you need to get the starter replaced, I suggest that you look for an independent Audi mechanic in your area and ask him or her for a quote for this service. And, compare it with what you got from the dealership. BTW, if the starter is bad, your reasoning for not wanting it changed just because it is expensive (i.e., hard to reach thus requires lots of labour) to you does not make sense at all. You own an Audi, a top-end German brand, and high maintenance costs come with every used Audi. Don't be surprised and shocked.
