    B8.5 Rpm limit vs B8

    Hi guys,

I've got a quick question out if plain curiosity... why is the B8.5' s rev limiter set lower than on the B8's? If I recall the B8.5 is about 400rpm lower... the same engine setup but wth an improved version of the DL501 Transmission... Why Audi,why.....

It's all in the gearing, 8.5 has lower gears.

Its also because in stock tune the car doesn't make any more power after 5650RPM and begins to bleed boost. Doesn't make sense for it to rev all the way to 7000-7200 on stock tune.

Those two answers you go so far are your correct reasons. But more importantly, why did they put a 160MPH speedo in the B8.5 when the B8 had 200MPH?

Perhaps Audi was a bit over zelous with the B8, and trying to bark up the wrong trees...M5,Merc SL65 etc... Trying to scare the big dogs with a Jack Russel Terrier...

I want to know this too... Although, the satisfactions of over-spinning the speedo kind of makes it worth it

more important question is why did my wife's B8 A5 have a 180 mph Speedo when my B8.5 S5 had a 160 mph speedo

The increments on the B8.5 give the illusion of accelerating faster than the B8. 10mph vs 20mph. 160 vs 200 over the same sweep distance

Are you sure? I have seen plenty of rolling road graphs where peak power for the stock B8s is typically higher than that for the B8.5s.
