Peeking in from A4 subforum.
I don't even know man. I hear the popular Valeo 1.8T SMF kit induces some chatter and that it may be fixable with Fluidampr, which is also available for 3.0/2.7T. IDK if they have or will make it for 4.2L, or if other ones can be modified to fit. My point is, supposedly 1.8T is unbalanced. And, it's an I4. Whereas you have a V8, which I'd guess is smoother. I also hear RS4 clutch kit is good, whatever that is. I assume that includes a DMF.
B7 and V-engines are also 240mm, while B6 1.8T is 228mm. Someone just figured out how to fit 240mm DMF on a B6.
My shifter does that too. I guess I'll see if it changes, since the car is high miles and on stock original mounts that I bet are worn. Not sure if I should use OEM hydraulic fluid filled, 034 SD, or 'Febi S4'.
And I bet the suspension is not doing it's job of fully absorbing road shock, so instead it goes elsewhere. I hear the car was made with a smooth maintained Autobahn in mind, not a poor US road. It's no $100k new Mercedes S-class on air suspension, let's just put it that way. Leaves some to be desired. Maybe high quality coilovers will fix this? Or better yet cheaper Koni FSD?
Might the rear be allowing rotational slack? ie rear diff bushing such as PowerFlex and 034 carrier inserts?
My subframe bushings also seem to flex. Also hydraulic fluid-filled. I hear they go bad by 200k, and that the front subframe can also split at the seam requiring welding. Sport suspension gets a stiffer bushing than non. Lemforder. And 034 also makes metal ones, which JimmyBones put on his B6 S4.
But that is just when I try working it with a prybar. IDK what that means in practical road-use terms.
Unfortunately I have no answers
