Hey DBFL, I'm trying to source some discs but Stillen has been incredibly unresponsive and its my understanding that the platform has been orphaned and I just want to have a set in the bank. I'm also looking for pads.
Life has taught me never try to make something idiot proof, they'll simply come up with a better idiot.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.
I have neither the time, nor the crayons to explain this to you properly.

Discs for this kit are a pain to get. I’m dealing with the same issue.
This kit, while being an AP kit, was designed for sale through Stillen exclusively. The bolt pattern for the hat is completely different than any other AP disc. You can get replacement discs from Stillen. But they aren’t AP. They are made by some company that Stillen contracts out to. They also seem to be lower quality.
To make it even harder, Stillen is no longer an AP distributor. Essex Parts in North Carolina is the exclusive US (or maybe North American) distributor for everything AP. They can source the rotor rings from AP. But AP doesn’t stock them. They’d have to make them and it takes 8-10 weeks. Essex Parts is currently developing a replacement kit that will use in-stock rotors and pads. But it won’t be ready for at least another month or two.
Pads are easy. I use Ferodo DS1.11 on the track, which Essex Parts usually has in stock. I use Hawk HPS 5.0 pads on the street and have been able to find them on Amazon. I’d have to search my order history, but I’m sure I can find a link.
I can give you the contact info for someone at Stillen who will answer if you want to go that route. For Essex Parts, you want to deal with Wade if he’s available. He’s been quite helpful and knows the most about what is going on with their B8 development. But so far everyone that I’ve spoken to there has been far more knowledgeable than anyone at Stillen.

I called Essex today but they couldn't help understandably because I couldn't provide them with AP part numbers. Do you happen to have the AP part numbers and any links to the Amazon pads available?

The AP part numbers for the rings are: CP3784-190GA:STL and CP3784-191GA:STL
The Hawk pads for these calipers is part number HB764. For an HPS 5.0 pad, it's HB764B.628. Amazon Link
Ferodo DS1.11 pads are part number FRP3147W. DS2500 pads are FRP3147H. Ferodo website link

    No problem.

I am currently working on having a set of replacement rotor rings made. Essex Parts was able to get the manufacturing drawings from AP for me and also recommended a company in the US that can make them. I don't have a price or timeframe yet, but should in the next couple days. Let me know if you are interested and I'll get you the info once I confirm everything.

Update on replacement rotors for the Stillen/AP kit:

I ordered a set of rotor rings from Coleman Racing Products. Coleman won’t produce the J-hook design since it’s owned by AP, so I chose a slotted design. The price was $877.44 for the pair. That’s about $35 more than ordering from Stillen, which you wouldn’t do (see the below). To get the rotors from AP would be double the price. Also, Coleman has a 5-7 day lead time, where AP was going to be a minimum of 8 weeks. I have several track weekends booked before I would receive the parts from AP.

As for why not to buy from Stillen...
Stillen doesn’t make the parts themselves. Whoever they are using does not do a good job. Below are a few pictures for comparison. The top is the replacement part from Stillen. The bottom is the original AP part.
The Stillen sourced rotor did not hold up anywhere near as well as the AP part. In fact, it cracked on Friday while on the track at Daytona. I replaced the cracked Stillen ring with the old AP ring that I still had. The AP rings have more track miles than the Stillen set by a large amount. They were only replaced because they were beginning to warp. I’m glad I held onto them as I’d have had to abandon the rest of the weekend otherwise.

I’ll compare the Coleman rings to the other two when they are delivered in a week or so. If they are decent quality, I can post the exact specs and the order sheet for anyone that may want to purchase them.

Wow, that's disappointing, especially since the rotors appear to be relatively low mileage.

I have sliders also. I'm planning on having the Planted brackets modified though. The seat sits about an inch closer to the center console and a little higher than stock.
The seats are excellent. Very comfortable on the track.

It would be good to see the Coleman spec sheet and hear your review of the Coleman rotor rings. I'll be in the same boat having to replace these soon.

Ouch! But yeah you can already see that big difference between the 2 from these pics with the Stillen being too thin. Good thing you still held on to that old AP ring for that weekend. Hope Coleman's better, would love to hear your review with it

Were you running with the Coleman Rotor Rings installed in this vid already? Or was this when you had the Stillen replaced with your old AP?

This was before I got the Coleman rings. I don’t remember if this session was before or after the Stillen ring cracked.
I attempted a weekend at Homestead and a Weekend at Road Atlanta with the Coleman rings. Neither went well. I haven’t figured out the exact cause of the problem yet. The calipers were rebuilt, so the ongoing braking issues aren’t from that. It’s either that the Coleman discs aren’t good or the hats are warped. I just haven’t had time to dive into that unfortunately.

Thanks. And unfortunately, no I haven’t taken the car out since thanksgiving weekend last year. I’m sure I’ll have to replace the battery yet again since the battery tender I bought for it has been sitting on the shelf still in the package. Last time the car was started was November.
I’ll probably get it prepped and ready for the track again in October since that when it starts to cool down enough here.

Just spent the time reading the full build again!

I was just In Tampa and picked up a new to me S4 the owner had always went to Evan at Crown. They just finished the control arms, went and checked out the shop and picked up the car.
Wish I could find a shop like that here in Houston.
You gave great insight on what is possible for this platform! Mine will never be a track dedicated car but a fun weekend ride!

Hopefully I’ll get a nice Evan ported SC!
Looking forward to your 2021 track days post!

Hey, DBFL do you happen to have a part number for the rotor rings? I might have a source for AP Racing rotors but they weren't 100% without the part number. Best part is that it should be under $500 per corner. I found them when searching for the pads you linked to from Amazon. I ordered them when you posted it and only just got around to opening them up for installation - turns out its the wrong part that got sent out. I reordered on Sunday from a different supplier from the same link and they came in today but they're also the wrong part. That got me over to the guys who seem to know what they're doing and I should have the replacements by Friday - fingers crossed they're the correct pads.

Once I can get the correct part number for the rotors, I'll double check pricing and post their contact info.

If you can get the authentic AP rings, let me know.
I'm currently trying to get info on the hats and bolt kit so I can get replacements for those. But that is proving to be more difficult than the rings since these parts were designed by Stillen and don't have an AP part number.

Hey, bad news guys. I heard back from the guys trying to source the rotors for me and strangely the same rotors on other platforms is significantly less money for our platform we're looking at $900 per side for just the rotors - hat and hardware is not included.

DBFL, maybe we can (AP Radical kit folks) convince Coleman to do a run at a discounted price? I could be convinced to get two sets if the price is right.

Awesome build you've got here, I plan to go in a somewhat similar direction. I have to ask though, have you had any issues running the MS109?

Most people on dual pulley fishing for power are running E40 and with ethanol burning cooler it could lead to lower overall temps I suspect. However I do not have ready access to E85 anyway and I figure if Im going to be ordering pails/drums of fuel I might as well get stuff I don't have to upgrade my hpfp for and save some cash.
