I finally got around to installing the CR-15 brace that I've had sitting around for a couple weeks. While I was at it I cleaned the car since we have a local Audi meet tomorrow, and I replaced the damaged hood liner. New wheels on too (missing center caps because they were damaged from shipping).

Looks awesome. You will love the CR-15. Currently running stock suspension with AK.

Thanks. I'm going back to Sebring next weekend, so I should have plenty of track time to test it out.

I highly recommend it. But I must warn you, there is no doing it once. These cars perform really well on the track, especially with the sports diff. Once you track the car you'll be hooked. I'm going to be picking up an enclosed trailer this summer so I can start going to other tracks around the country.

Very cool. Hit me up whenever you're in the DMV. I believe the only decent track is VIR. About 4 hrs away further south.. Waterfest in NJ has a small track also among other activities.

VIR is definitely on my list of tracks that I want to go to. As of now the plan is to do Homestead and Atlanta later this year. Then I'll head north sometime in early 2018.

    Mine did the same thing.

I get the feeling that 6MT cars are MUCH harder on belts, especially if you do HPDE or make frequent trips to a 1/4 mile track.

You should consider COTA. It's pricey, but worth it if only because you can say you did an F1 track. There are several companies that do track days there like Edge Addicts and Speed Ventures.

Thanks for the recommendation. I've been driving with Chin Motorsports, and COTA is on their list of tracks. I just looked at the track layout. Looks like a fun track.

Rev limiter is hard on belts. Violent shifts, are hard on belts. Rev-matching and other things can be hard on belts.

All things easy to do (sometimes even purposefully done) in a higher HP 6 speed (500+ crank).

    Another day at Sebring

And another supercharger belt and hood liner destroyed. The belt was put on yesterday before I trailered the car to the track. I got less than two hours of driving before it went. Ugh.

It seems like the belt that was paired with the 186mm pulley may be the wrong size. So I put on a different size belt. I guess we will find out sooner or later. I'll just hold off replacing the hood liner this time.

Put the stock idler back on, and order a Gates RPM.

I said in another post that I don't think the big HP dual pulley cars will get 10k out of a belt (especially with guys who frequently track) and that it will turn into a maintenance item at oil change intervals similar to HPFP followers on 2.0t cars.

Unfortunately, it's looking more and more like I'll be right. Which sucks, because my fan shrouds rip the hell out of my hands when doing a belt from up top (best go from underneath). 6MT cars seem to chew them up faster than 10k, so change them up earlier, I guess?

10K? I wish!! I got 35 laps out of that belt. That's roughly 130 miles.
I changed from a 1290mm belt to a 1306 for today (mainly because that's all I could get on the weekend). So, 1290 is too small. But it appears 1306 is too loose. Three laps in today and my dash lit up like a Christmas tree. It would appear that the belt slipped when I downshifted. Maybe 7pk1300 is the way to go. I'd rather find the correct belt for this setup rather than put the car in service position to put the stock idler pulley back on. Especially because I'd probably still have to figure out the correct belt size for that setup.

So did replacing your clutch with the stage 5 ever fix your sticking issue? Did jhm use a different pressure plate than the one they use for their other clutches? I assume it did fix it since you haven't mentioned anything about clutch issues since?

I haven't said anything about it yet for a few reasons. First, the last time it took about 2000 miles of use for the problem to appear. I'm probably around 1200 miles on the nose clutch. So I'll reserve judgement for now. Second, I'm still waiting for JHM to make things right with the last setup. But they don't seem interested in responding to emails. Even if this new clutch works out, I wouldn't recommend doing business with such a poorly run company.

As for the pressure plate, it is a different part. The R-Line pressure plate has no SAC mechanism and is apparently much stronger than the one included with their other line of clutches. As to whether it's better or not, I can't really say yet. I've done two full weekend HPDE events on this setup, but I haven't been to the drag strip yet. The strip will be the real test since I haven't launched the car since the clutch was changed.

I finally got all my copper accents installed (front & rear rings, S4 badge, and Supercharged badges).

I'm still debating what I'm going to do with the mirrors. Ill probably paint them body color with a copper accent.

Nice work on pulling it together with the copper accents. That's something more cars could do to compete the look when going with an off color wheel (don't mean that in a bad way....). And, yeah, I think doing the mirrors body colored is the way to go. Or CF with a CF rear diffuser....

I was just thinking something the other night. You running dampened crank pulley? Maybe the belt chewing that's gaining out there because of tiny vibration on solid pulley?

Sounds dumb, but it just crossed my mind the other day, thought it'd bring it up.

I think carbon fiber is a waste of money on a black car. It just blends in. I'm going to look for a set of used mirrors that I can have painted in mythos black. I'm still debating if I'm going to add any copper to them. If I do, I'll add a stripe in the small recessed area on the top.

No. It's undampened. I figured that since I lost most of the dampening when going to a LWFW it wasn't necessary to spend the extra money on a dampened pulley. Although you may be on to something about there being an imbalance. There's still the possibility that the 7pk1290 belt that was paired with the pulley was too small causing it to separate. I have a 1306 on it now and Loe dropped off another belt for me to try - I think it's a 1300. I'm ok spending $25 or so on a few belts to see if that works before investing in a new FD pulley.

Maybe, but you can get a set of CF mirrors for $140, and I think the ECS rear diffuser is a nice aesthetic upgrade on the B8.5 outside of the color. I can't imagine you will spend a whole lot less on a quality paint job on the mirrors and stock diffuser.

Here's an idea... why don't I send you my Daytona Grey (DGP) mirrors?

I may be able to find a set of mirrors for a reasonable price. If I get a second set, I can send them out for painting without any downtime. Plus I can add the European power folding option at the same time. As for the diffuser, I think I have to replace my stock valance anyway since I was rear ended a few weeks ago. The lady that hit my car wants to pay cash so her insurance doesn't go up. So I'll probably go aftermarket on that piece. It'll cost her less than a stock part and I get a better looking diffuser. Everyone wins. I'd like to find one made of plastic and have it painted to match. I just haven't gotten around to researching the available options.

Yah I just started thinking, if the pulley itself is exhibiting even the most minuscule vibrations, especially higher frequency, lower amplitude vibrations, that might translate into rapid wear on any belt. The blown belts all seem to happen on the undampened pulleys, but maybe I missed something.

Also LWFW has less mass which to me would increase minute vibration (less weight to stabilize/absorb vibration). LWFW = Less weight = higher frequency, lower amplitude vibration. So the LWFW would actually be more detrimental to vibration reduction, without some kind of compensation. At least the type of vibration that would wear out the pulley belt, yet not enough to affect internal components.

Maybe more weighty pulley = less frequency and higher amplitude vibration which is still not great.

Assuming the dampened pulley = less frequency AND lower amplitude vibration, this is where we'd see the best value?

Anyways, it's all my dumb theories, and I'm no Mech Eng. The amount of vibration might really be well within the belt tolerances, so no real effect on reliability or MTBF of the belts, but it's a concept that I keep coming back to. Sure would like to hear from an engineer though to close my dumb idea out so I can move on with my life, and know which pulley to get - dampened or solid - when I'm ready lol.

I've been curious to ask you how your killer Chiller is working out with the upgraded heat exchanger that you're using. It looks like I'll be going the same route pretty soon. I'm even thinking about driving over to Crown Motorsport and spending the day at Busch Gardens. I appreciate any information you can give me about how high your intake temperatures are getting now when you really romp on it and how is your a/c performance.

Right on fellas. I'll let you all know the dates. I really enjoy that side of the state. Used to live in Redington Beach.
