Interest for A-Pillar Gauge holders with perfect fitting?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've been discussing with a few friends of mine for a number of months about getting A-pillar with gauge pods manufactured for perfect/no modification fitment. I know that there may be one or two websites out there at the moment with some perfect fitment for gauges on the A-pillar, however, there isn't a comprehensive listing for different models and makes, furthermore, there also isn't much variance in finishes, often white, black or grey ABS.

We'd hope that we would later develop on the gauge holders with custom finishes such as leathers with premium stitching, vinyl finishes to match interiors..
We're going abroad in two weeks time to see how mate who owns a factory where they carry out injection moulding and casting. I'll be taking the A4 B6 drivers side A pillar, a few gauges and a custom fibreglass a-pillar with me to see if we can get these moulded on a larger scale. We're also looking at Mercs and BMW's (new models) as the fabrication for these, at least in the UK, are mainly custom jobs with 3-4 week lead times.

Do you reckon there would be interest in perfect fitment for A-pillar gauge holders? I know there isn't on available anymore for the A4 B6, so i'll at the least be able to guarantee i'll get a few made for people on the b6 forum :)

Let me know your thoughts and opinions please.

I do know there might be some issues with the stock airbag, and we'll be testing/working it out as much as possible to see what kind of interference their might be with bags. It's a risk people take with any modification that isn't stock, although that isn't an excuse.

There are risks in modding cars, sure.
But death by taking a boost gauge to the head shouldn't be one.

As I said below. There also might be more reason to use them in some situations than others. The airbag curtain doesn't extend the full way down the A-pillar, i think it's worth experimenting with how a blown airbag reacts with gauges on the pillar.

In the same way someone might swap out their steering wheel for a momo steering wheel without a bag, it ultimately ends up being the decision of the individual.

I would like to not insert my gauges into my head if my airbag goes off.

I am out on this one.

you could make a pod that snaps into the small vent on the top of the dash near where the A pillar meets the dash...that would be safe.

Buy a column mount or vent mount and call it a day mate. This subject has been explored previously and rendered useless. Taking a boost gauge to the head aside...a pillar gauges looks ricey and really doesnt belong on a classy automobile😫

Personally, I've been looking for an A Pillar gauge but there's non in our platform. OP, if you can get one that installs pretty close to the windshield, all the way to the bottom I'll be in for it.

From what I've seen in the junk yards, the A pillar doesn't shatter sideways. Just the bottom part becomes undone, so I don't know why everyone thinks the gauge is going to come flying, specially if it's way at the bottom near the windshield, where the airbag doesn't get to. I think it's a great idea. I'd definitely be interested in one.

A-piller gauges arent really a thing anymore because pretty much all cars have side curtain airbags. I like the idea to have a new part made for an older plaform, but it is not a safe mod. Are you prepared to cover the medical fees of those injured by your pods to the face?

Additionally with the AC vent gauge pods and the Podi (founded by a Audizine B6 owner to serve as an OEM solution) there is a lot of competition in the market space.

I'm personally not interested in those pods, and I'm willing to put A-pillar gauges in my car regardless of the "risks". If people have an issue with that maybe don't put yourself in situations i.e speeding, which will most likely bring more severe injuries in the event of a crash, or don't drive at all? Will I be responsible for medical bills? No, it's a personal choice whether you put it in or not, I would make that clear to every single person who opts for one. Maybe some of you got stuff to lose or are wrapped in cotton wool. I've had much worse to the head before (Don't turn that into a joke). I'm quite a large guy who's seen quite a bit of stuff on my short stay on this planet, it's all the same to me.

With that being said, if you don't like it thats up to you. I posted this in regards to people who may be interested.

The prototype is being sent off on the 7th of December and I'll be heading to the factory to see what the situation/costs are with the moulding and injection process. If they're under $2500-3500 per mould (machine moulded) then Ill press onwards with manufacturing. Apparently there are a few different options when it comes to moulding. I'm sitting down with some CAD engineers to talk about gauge placement and the plastic properties.

I have a Honda Civic drivers side pillar pod for my Turbosmart eBoost. It is an exact fit. (I did trim it on one side)
