    Help with timing marks

Hey guys, dealer diagnosed my timing chain was stretched and needed to be replaced. It started and drove fine, just felt sluggish when accelerating. I tore everything apart and am having difficult time trying to mark the intake can sprocket. Everything else lines up pretty close except that. You can tell by the pics
The intake and exhaust cam look to be in the same position, I thought the intake was supposed to be ahead of the exhaust. Anyone offer some advice?

Make sure you change that tensioner too. Since you have a 2009 model, you have the 'T" revision tensioner, which can fail and potentially cause catastrophic engine damage.

I have purchased all new timing chains, tensioners and guide rails. The tensioner looks to be still working good right now, but for sure will change.

This is the closest I could get the two cams at the top, but then none of the links below lined up!

not sure if this will help but I just finished replacing cam timing chain and tensioner on my 2010 and found that to get all three marks on the chain to align with the colored plates may take
many, many many turns of the crankshaft before alignment occurs (on the cam timing chain anyhow). How many KM on your motor? The camchain tensioner for sure needs to be replaced and the cam chain does stretch a small amount but I wouldn't think enough that the timing marks would never line up better then the photo. I wonder if some more turning of the motor will help.

I have turned the crank about 50+ times and can only get either all of the intake/exhaust timing marks to line up, or either the crank and the two cams on the bottom left and right (not sure what they are for). My 2010 has 110,000km's on it. I did have a no start condition before this + low compression but got it taken care of. Also I checked with a inspection cam and couldn't see any indication the valves hit the pistons so im really not sure how on earth these won't line up?

the cam chain may take as many as 30 or so complete circuts before the 2 cam and crank mark align. If you've done that many and still no good then someone with more experience will need to chime in. I was ready to give up and decided "five more circuts" and lo and behold...Alignment!

I was hoping this would happen but even after 50+ turns I can't get them both to align. Not even close.
    Thanks for your 0.2c

You have a new chain coming. When you put the chain on align the marks. Doesn't really matter where they are now. It only matters if the valves have made contact with the pistons or not. Just be sure that the crank sprocket stays keyed to the crank. If it loses orientation then your timing marks can be spot and you can stil cause a piston crash.

Ok so I got a Audi tech to install and line up a new chain and tensioner. The screen in my cam bridge is broken though, can I purchase the screen separately?

Maybe, it has a part number but there was also a revision changing the size of the opening. Not sure they will carry the 09 smaller size vs having to get a new bridge. Inspect the cam surfaces for scoring as well. I think its 06H103081E

Just a side note, in case someone didnt mention it, on most DOHC engines, those dots on the chain can be rotated a couple hundred times before they will line up on all the points again, only real way to do it correctly is to take the chain off and make sure it lines back up again. Otherwise your just shooting in the dark.

Yip that's it! Thanks buddy, I will inspect the cam. Now I gotta fish out the old screen. Would the check ball happen to fall in too if the screen broke?

If everything is correctly timed, all timing marks only line-up every 161 crankshaft revolutions.
