    standard parasitic draw

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have an 02 a4 1.8 m and was wondering what a "normal" amount of parasitic draw is for our cars after setting for 5min or so (enough for all electronics to tuen off)?
Currently i have .05ish once the car is all closed up and has sat for 5min.
My battery dies after a day or so sitting even though i had the battery tested and the alternator. I think maybe they didnt test the battery or alt correctly.

That is a really interesting question! I have an OEM battery that is a little less than two years old. Here is my voltage at idle:

Here it is when I turn the key off:

And here it is after 5 minutes. I should note that I have an ELM327 Bluetooth transmitter that I leave plugged in all the time.

Thanks old guy but im actually looking for the amp draw. Disconnect the negative cable and put each meter lead on one of the negative post and one on the negative cable to see what the car is drawing during "off" mode. Most cars have anout .05 to my research. Thats why alot of cars battery goes dead after a month or so not being started.

Oh and putt the multimeter on the "A" on the red side and move the red wire over the the other red post spot that says for 10amp or maybe 5 for yours

Best way to find out what yoru draw is with a amp clamp and a dvom thats setup for one. From what I know according to audi a draw above 0.030 amps is considered high. That being said the car goes to sleep completely after about 20mins.If your looking to check draw you can latch the hood latch and the drivers door. Then you can start looking at the meter and check what you the draw is.Once your certain you have a draw you can start pulling fuses one by one.Looking at the meter after a fuse is removed. When the value drops.Youve found your draw. From personal experience with b6's.Ive had the radios draw some power and the power seat buttons draw some power if they were jammed or stuck in a position. If you have water in the car then the comfort module could be drawing a good amount of power as well.

Mine was the .05 after a much much longer time than 20min with the only thing open was the hood.

There are some relays that don't run through the fuse panel. Any ideas where to start? Isn't the relay fuse box under the wiper cowl?

All systems shut down for at least 30 minutes and I unplugged my ELM327 Bluetooth transmitter:

Im putting my battery on charge overnight and testing again tomorrow. I just went through this in my work truck last week and found a bad glow plug relay pulling 2.5amps and killing brand new fully charged batteries in less than 20min.

Broken glove box hinge may cause the drain, I had that happen. Not that there aren't other things that can be an issue.

Ok. Got it down to a little draw from the cigarette lighter socket and fuse 13 steering column module. The module controls pretty much every switch and button in the car. This might take awhile to pinpoint. Any suggestions?

Try unplugging the suspect components or the fuse for them and watch your meter.

Went through this whole parasitic draw dance with my B6 a few months back

Still having this problem. The major draw is coming from the steering column module. Could someone post a list of what runs through this?
