    Tire Size Question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm currently running the 255/30/20s that come with the car stock. For the winter looking to keep the rims on the car but get a 255/35/20 tire with a bit more sidewall. Roads get nasty here in NJ during the winter months. Not lowered and don't plan on it. Anyone running this size? Issues?

Your best bet it take the 20" off and get a set of inexpensive 18" wheels and get snows for them in a 245\40-18.

I have blizzaks on mine, the 18" is the best performance size for the car and they look good too.

at over 400.00 a tire for Snows in the 20" size it justifies getting a wheel and tire setup.

Excellent advice and I second the motion.

I am running 18x9 ET45 (offset) the 20" wheels have an offset of ET50,

Anything with at least a 45 to 50, you don't have to have 9" wide wheels, you run 8, 8.5" as long as the offset is high enough.

I use this setup as I run my car on the track with them too, and swap out the blizzaks with Trofeo R 265/35 18" in the summer.

Though you can run 255/40 18" just fine, I pushed the width a little and went 265, and the rubber is way cheaper than 20".

I think I paid 220 a tire for Bridgestone RE71R and same for Michelin Pilot Super Sports.

Yeah seems that way. I found a set of all seasons Nitto Neo Gens 245/30/20 for 620 shipped and was debating just leaving them on the car for all time. Otherwise I can get a set from Tire rack and pick up in delaware 18x8s with CONTINENTAL WINTERCONTACT SI in 235/45R18. Little over a 1000 bucks which isn't bad since it includes all hardware to mount.

I just went to snows this past weekend. I had a set from my old VW MKVI R that are a little smaller.
    18x8 Neuspeed RSe12 Light Weight Wheel @ 19 lbs wrapped in 225/40-18 Dunlop Wintersport 4D @ 21 lbs.

I have heard you can code different revs/mile in in vcds. Does anyone have a link on how to do this?

    Tire Size Comparison
Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
    255/30-20 3.0in 13.0in 26.0in 81.8in 775 0.0%
    225/40-18 3.5in 12.5in 25.1in 78.8in 804 -3.6%

Your 0 to 60 times just got a little faster. That would be interesting to type in a calibration number to keep the speedo accurate, I found some interesting reading regarding changing a multiplier in other VAG cars.

Not sure how it applies to our cars.
