Had a buddy who bought a C class with 130k miles that needed some serious help.

I'm in Omaha NE and the temperature was around 35 degrees with strong winds...soooo inside wash

    Always tape off!!

First cut using the chemical guys Black optics orange pads, these things really do cut quickly. First time using this pad and loved it, I used Meguiars 105 for this step.

Next was the polish again trying out the black optics line from Chem guys...the polishing pads did not live up to the hype. Using Megs 205 I could not get them to finish clean!

Switched it up to a traditional foam black pad, much better.

Had to make the emblem pop a bit with intimidator metal polish

Finished it off with a coating of Fusso sealant for winter prep(that scratch above the wheel is DEEP)

    Happy detailing.

What was the paint code on the car? With newer MBZ always check to make sure it's not a C-code which is their Creramic-Clear Coat topped paint. If so, realize that this paint is different as the "cerami"clear top coat is sprayed, the nano particles of Fumed Silica (SiO2), which are synthetically engineered, migrate to the top 0.2 mils of the clear coat as it is curing. If you remove this potion of the clear layer of paint, the paint under it will be much softer and will not polish out or react the same way the nano particle portion did or would. You will at some level have compromised the the finish on the car and have trouble finishing it out. C040 is an example of MBZ Ceramic Black.

Overall it looks good. To remove the slight haze as seen in this pic, hit it with a refining polish like CarPro Essence and a white pad. You can then top it with a silica coating or even something simple like a synthetic sealant even. Another great option for MBZ or BMW's with Ceramic Clear Coats is Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover and Finishing Glaze. From there you seal with a non-cleaning wax or paint sealant. Dozens of good ones to choose from.

This is what I love about detailing, there's always something new to learn. The vehicle was an early 2000 C class and I'm not sure what the paint code was. Every job I've ever done on others cars I always tell them I am a hobbyist and not a professional, haven't had any damage done to a car yet. Hopefully I can keep that streak going.

So how would one tackle a car with that different type of paint? just a simple polish without any cut? Obviously always start with the less harsh pad/product combo and work from there.

Go with the least aggressive method possible and use quality products. On MBZ I primarily use Menzerna.
