I have no idea what could have caused this damage. The paint in intact. But it was done at my Gym's parking lot last night. right smack dab on the seam.

What are the chances of getting this thing fixed without replacing the panel? My deductible is low so it is going to the Body shop my Dealer is recommending.

    Damn....

A "good" body shop should be able to pull this out, but it's tricky with the seam right there. Do some research on body shops beyond the dealer recommendation

No idea what could have caused a dent this low... good luck!

Sorry to see that! Not even any scuffing? Panel can be repaired, not sure the paint will not pop though.

I had a pretty bad dent from someone who apparently backed into me. It went into the cutline on my rear fender, but a paintless dent removal shop was able to get it out. That, and a crease on one of the doors cost me $400. They are now perfect. The Audi dealership wanted me to take it in for body/paint work that would have probably cost me $1,000+. Search out paintless dent removal before you do anything else. Here is the dent before. It's gone.

It's not impossible to PDR a dent over a crease, just very difficult. I imagine the chances of finding a reputable shop in your area are pretty good if you're in SF.

Sorry to see the damage. Try a good paintless dent removal guy. If you need a recommendation in the bay area, PM me. I have been using this particular service for over 20 years. Joe Currin is wonderful and does excellent work.

no scuffing. The gym looked through the video files but it was too dark to make anything out. I have no idea how I could have gotten that.

I'm thinking that with a $500 deductible I should just go to a body shop. I have gotten several high recommendations for European collision in SF.

I would try and get PDR done on it, so that you don't have to deal with repainting, and then down time as well as color and texture matching. Might be around the same price, but then you also don't deal with resale issues either, and a resprayed panel.

    Update

repair cost is $3600 and requires the door assembly to be replacesd State Farm has identified a used/Recycled door for $200 less than list price of a brand new door. They are not budging so I'm working with my dealer and the body shop to get a new door at a lower cost.

    Work starts on Saturday.

Frustrating morning to say the least.

Wow, there must have been internal damage to the frame of the door for them to want to replace the entire door. Hope it all works out, that's a lot of cash for such a small dent, but if State Farm pays all's cool

Happy Thanksgiving everyone, temps due to fall to -38F next week - finally! But hardly any snow :(

I'm guessing somebody kicked it in. Any shoe prints? Happened to me on the rear quarter panel. Somebody kicked it in high up and left a shoe print, no paint damage. Both the body and rear fender seams were kicked in. Somebody clearly intended to do damage in a hard to fix place, but the body shop Audi Concord uses works with an amazing PDR guy. I have his business card somewhere, but I need to find it again. He got it all out and restored the lines.

    26-Nov update

Delivered the car to European Collision in San Francisco. They came highly recommended. The first thing they are going to do is have their PDR "magician" take a look on Monday. They have seen him do miracles and will get his opinion before moving forward with replacing the door.

They agreed that the the most likely cause was someone kicking the panel... Sad. Why would someone do that? Especially in a parking lot that is filled with nice cars. And yes, I was perfectly parked between the lines.

I can vouch for European Collision Center. I had thousands of dollars in damage from someone hitting my car in a parking garage and they did amazing work. Had a front fender replaced and a full front respray, there was no difference in color that I could see on my Moonlight Blue Metallic Paint. The only way to tell was with a paint meter, I will take all my cars there(hopefully never again) for any future repairs.

Cool Ready to be picked up

After two weeks my car is ready:

    • Replaced door (had to pay out of pocket to get a new door as opposed to the recycled 2011 S5 door that state farm was forcing me to use)
    • Painted the door and blended the quarter panels and the roof
    • Polished the entire car to get rid of the little scratches that had built up over the past two years
    • touched up the tiny rock chips on the hood

Ready to be picked up tomorrow

I'll report on the quality of work. But the shop has been extremely professional and communicative. They kept me up to date through the entire process

Wait.. State Farm was trying to force you to use used parts? They must operate differently where you are, because I have them and they will only allow me to use OEM, brand new parts. If I have a desire to use replica parts that's strictly on me, but they record that replica parts are used and won't cover those parts in the future.

    Good to hear!

Statefarm has been sucking with claims recently. Had to get work done on my civic, and they wanted to use - used suspension parts. Full struts and all, just rebuilt. Luckily the body shop insisted on full OEM replacements and I did have to pay a little more out of pocket.

I've unfortunately had to have a lot of claims through State Farm recently. $7k hail claim on Evo in 2014, $9k hail claim on STI in 2015, $11k repair on the Evo from a collision with a deer in June 2016. In all instances they made sure I only got the best of the best parts. No replicas, no used parts. If that's what some of you guys are facing, I'd either look around for a different State Farm agent or look for an entirely difference company.

Granted, these are the only 3 vehicle claims I've had on my policy, and the policy is currently considered to be over 30 years old. I've had one claim on my house from the fires that destroyed a lot of homes 4 years ago. That claim was only for evacuation costs and minor repairs in my case.

State Farm has treated me really well lately. A valet parking attendant pulled my '15 S5 into a concrete bench. The body shop fixed it and State Farm recouped the $500 deductible from the parking company.

My A4 is now in the shop for a rear-end hit and run and State Farm has approved the repairs. Won't ever see the $500 deductible from the ass driving a late 90's Olds 88 that hit my car and took off.

Yes, but they charged me $250, apparently due to Uninsured Motorist coverage. Who knows whether the guy that hit me was insured, but they assumed the worst. I doubt he even had a driver's license. I will never see the $250, but I can rest in the fact that I am driving a '17 A4 and he is driving a late-90's Olds 88. Karma.

BTW, the A4 is as good as new now!

Interesting. I was recently involved in a hit and run and progressive stuck me for the whole accident. Even though eyewitness caught plate, make, model and surveillance footage caught the whole thing. I also have UMC and found it strange that didn't kick in.
