The 2.7T motor is great, but...

I personally think the C5 is a real ugly set of wheels, even worse as a sedan, with no OEM RS6 trunk lip to break up that horribly round trunk lid.

I think we're getting our wires crossed.

When I mean "set of wheels", I'm referring to the C6 itself, it's got an ugly profile. it's a pre-facelift model too. Ugh. The B6 is much prettier.

Ah gotcha. Ya I know it's not that good looking compared to my b6 but I don't want to do a full swap and I want a 2.7tt never been in one this is clean.

Also what is the difference between pre face life and post face lift?!

Just beware...the 2.7T is a wrencher's nightmare, with virtually all turbo-related procedures, requiring a motor pull.

Facelift C5 has rear license plate surround / fog lamp carrier in piano black, pre-facelift is a grey, semi-transparent lense.

Facelift has different headlamps, hood, grille, bumper upper and lower sections. The door mirrors are also different, with more of a slope / taper to them.

    Pre-facelift C5 front end:

    Post-facelift C5 front end:

There are also minor interior differences - switchgear, steering wheel, head unit and front seats.

Its not as bad as everyone says, but yes you do have to pull it to do turbo work, that said there is more room to work with in the a6. I can pull the 2.7T in about 2 hours now, got really good at it during my swap lol.

Yeah, it's not too bad pulling the 2.7T - I actually enjoy it. I only mentioned it, as I have no idea what the OP's like at wrenching. If he has to get work done at a shop, it'll be costly. Or if he does his own wrenching, but has never pulled the 2.7T, it could be daunting.

To be honest I love the look of the a6! Yes my avant is beautiful and it's a avant! And a geat start to a 2.7tt 6 speed build but the a6 has rear ac. And the motor and transmission is already there. And it was just put to stage two and has a new clutch

    I would only get the A6, for a 2.7T and 01E swap, if I wanted a 2.7T that bad.

Then part out the rest, make some dough, then toss the stripped carcass out with the garbage.

Ok so I am keeping the 04 b6 avant! That's car needed way to much . Yes it was fast and felt perfect but the seats were trashed the paint not good. So the 2.7t dream will wait

Your best bet is to swap a 2.7 into that thing. The odds that you're going to find a body and motor both in mint condition for a good price or even a swap are kind of silly in 2017. You could swap several Cool Motors in. 2 liter TDI 1.9 TDI 2.7 TT V8... Maybe even the V10 ha

Well... ur b6 is worth maybe 2-3k on the open market depending on overall condition.

The a6 is worth less as a car but more in parts.

01E transmissions (the 6spd in the a6) is worth between 500-1000 on audizine if you pull it from the car.

The 2.7t motor is also worth similar money depending on condition and miles.

I cannot tell you what to do but if you get the a6 and happen to crash it or dont like it anymore, parting it out will be good $$$

    No, it definitely isn't. I've owned a 2001 D2 S8, 2005 D3 A8 4.2 Quattro, as well as a 2004 RS6 Avant.

    2001 D2 S8 - 1855 kgs.
    2005 D3 A8 4.2 Quattro - 1938 kgs.
    2004 C5 RS6 Avant - 1874 kgs.

Yes, my S8 was some 20 kgs lighter than my RS6, but the RS6 is a lot heavier than the C5 A6, even in Sedan guise. The RS6 Avant is even heavier.

    I know that.

    It's also a lot bigger than a B6 or C6.

A Boeing 747 is built out of aluminium. An 18-wheel Peterbilt rig is built out of steel, but much lighter than the 160,000 kg Boeing.

Yeah, material matters, but so does mass.

I think the a6 juding from the pictures has a shit load of miles on it.That being said.If timing belt, turbos, clutch havent been done as well as valve cover and tensioner gaskets and chain tensioners.Take this into account. Those are big ticket items. If you can do the work yourself great. If not just be aware those engine are maintnance heavy.Especailly once get up in miles depending on their service history of course. The interior of that a6 looks like its seen better days.

Long story short I would not trade a clean ass b6 avant to go back to the future into a 2002 a6.Just to go up in engine size and twin turbo. Not worth it in my opinion.

    Might as well get this:

My dad has a C5 with 2.7T. It drives nice but.. I just can't handle the back end of it, the trunk lid and taillights.

Also silver car, never again. For me at least.

I got one decal:) but sadly I didn't feel a increase in hp. My decal might be a knock off or just broken.

Finally. Someone said it. I dont care for avants neither. Nothing special about a station wagon. If I wanted that I'd go the Volvo route. Just my $2¢ though lol.

    All Over!

I love Avants, especially fast sleepers. Nothing tickles me more, than a stock-looking family wagon, leaving a sport sedan or coupé for dead, at the lights.
