Car died while driving and now wont start

Well I was in traffic and the car jus died.... I'm thinking the fuel filter may be the culprit as being the original at 111k miles. It cranks, but doesn't start.... any help is appreciated.

Start with the basics and check battery voltage, fuel, and spark. I had a recent crank no start on my B6 and I thought it was the fuel pump, but it ended up being the fuel suction jet pump in the other portion of the tank. It caused a no start when I had <= 1/4 tank of gas. I haven't fixed it yet, but at least now I know to keep the gas somewhat full.

Does it sound like there's compression? Timing belt couldve snapped depending on maintenance. But unlikely at idle...

I wouldn't think fuel filter unless it sucked in a kitten.

Well.... I went to test it and it started no issues today. No issues, no codes, nothing.

Then it sounds more like a fuel filter. Or low pressure fuel pump

I would second the fuel pump. Had that happen on my '96 A4 and it was the fuel pump.

Check the fuel pumps duty cycle if you have VAGCOM.

It reported at 70%.. I'll be doing the fuel filter soon, and going from there to diagnose that issue.

Sounds more like Crank position sensor to me. Those usualyl start failing intermittently causing strang stalls and no-starts then they just conk out completely. Common issue as the our cars get older.

Well that is too high, so it may be your issue.

What measuring block group can you monitor the fuel pump duty cycle? Is it Group 106?

This I totally concur with and would go after this if fuel pump checks out . on OBD2 this sensor can be a funny one and leave no code whatsoever so don't be fooled .. I had a car once where this died. I was already with my scope to diagnose and when I went to look at it the magnet had fallen out of the end.. damn fords I tell ya

It most likely isn't the cps. If it was, you did you'd have a code for that.

I'm interested in the measuring block too. I have a no start as well (already replaced the CPS so that isn't it) and believe it to be fuel related. Would like to rule in or out the low pressure fuel pump...
