Any one given them a shot yet and seen noticeable gains from a gen 1 with identical setups? I am looking to swap my gt2871r for a gtx2867r Gen 2.

I will try a gen 2 gtx2867r soon. My gen 1 is shredded so im hoping i can still send it in for the BB replacement prog and upgrade to the gen 2.

This will be on a 2.1 stroker though.

they went down by like $300 in the last month, assuming this is why haha.

gen 1 gtx2867r can be had for ~$1000 now. Check out himni-racing.com or turbokits.com

You would need to look at a compressor map in the proper efficiency range for your motor and compare to the Gen 1 to see if any gains. But with that being said, tuning with fueling can make those maps basically only useful for guesstimation purposes. For example, whp attainability can surpass that of the potential flow rate outside the efficiency range (or close to it). I have seen this done before on a standard GT35R with race fuel and standalone engine management on either an 058 or 06A 2008cc block.

But I washed my hands with Garrett...I mean Honeywell, and can no longer endorse them. Blew my GT2871R 2-3 times before I washed my hands with them. Wasted a lot of money trying to fix something that simply did not want to be fixed. Lesson learned. Been running my Comp Turbo 5152 Triplex for a couple years now without a hiccup. But with that also being said, my friend's GTX3071R rapes my car (custom tune on meth with semi-built head back then. now I think it is complete). But he also rapes Stage 3 B5 S4s.

not so much worried about the gains from gen 1 to gen 2 as i may upgrade tuning/injectors/manifold in near future but more concerned with whether it will physically be compatible since I do not see an option for a 2 bolt inlet. My car right now is built for impressive mid range power but potentially looking to go down the max power route since she sits in storage most of the time these days.

Are you eliminator or you just chose the 2-bolt compressor housing inlet option for the full frame/body?

    "Hello Matthew,

Currently we do not offer the GEN2 GTX series models with alternate compressor housing options.

    Thank you"

guess no gen 2 for me! welp, saving a few hundred at least.

Once again, Garrett left a sour taste in my mouth so I can now say things like f*ck Garrett. But that does not mean that you do not have other options. If I were you, I would look into compressor wheel upgrading. If you wanted to get extra fancy, have Comp Turbo maximize your current housings (machining) to fit the largest wheel CHRA they can (my current CHRA with wheels use the standard t31 housing from my gt2871r machined to fit the larger wheel. so the turbo outside is the same size, but wheel size differences are massive). Then sell your current CHRA to offset cost as much as you can. That is just one option. Other options are things like the HTA71 upgrade (you can actually do the 71, and not just the 68 upgrade despite what is says on their website) or contact a company like Pag Parts for an upgraded billet compressor wheel. Cheaper option than the GTX upgrade too.

I am curious to see what a Gen2 GTX2860r in an elim housing would do. I bet that would spool amazing and have good top end too. Perfect street sleeper setup.

The eliminator housing can def make big power. B5 member cracked 400whp years ago, being one of the first on this forum board to mess with Maestro on E85. Meaning, one of the first documented to mess with both. He did it with a GT3071R eliminator. So those housings def can make big power for our little motors...because they are incredibly small.

So much can be done if people think outside the box and not get cornered by the market. So many ways to go about things, but people first need to just go about things their own way. For example, I have a tubular manifold sitting at my friend's house and has been there for over a year. Just sitting. He made it for me for an undisclosed price, and will do much more when I get it installed (downpipe, redo hot side charge pipe, same person who custom installed my fmic, and exhaust). Also have a CNC valve port ported head sitting at a friend's shop for maybe 2 years now, keeping the small intake runner ports for velocity (extrude honed IM in my possession with sheet showing roughly 17% cfm increase per runner tested at ~30psi). Not going to disclose price, but let's just say it is the same price as having just a few things done at a machine shop like a resurfacing. And it is this very reason the TR18T exists. One reason not to sh*t on people on the forum boards, and a reason I don't (or try not to). Besides, it just isn't a nice thing to do.
