    Slow C7 S6 owner

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello all,

Im coming from M5s and AMGs and supercharged Range Rovers and now I picked up a 2013 S6 with 37k miles for work duties. I bought the car which had an USP intake and found out it also had an APR tune on it (dealer didn't know). I had it updated and transferred to my name and Im on the 93 tune.

I cant seem to get launch control to work - I think the previous owner maxed it out at 200. Thats another story, but if I brake torque a bit and take off without LC, it doesn't seem to have that extra grunt I would expect, especially in the 60-100mph range. I'm taking the car to the dealer or some other issues (P2273 code, P0141, P0161, P0140, P0160) and Im secretly hoping that they are affecting the performance so it will remedy itself once this is fixed. I know they are o2 sensor codes, which I clear with my handheld unit but come right back.

Is there anything else I can check? Should I post a video and report back?

    Thanks

You could add the APR TCU tune to raise your launch limiter to 3000. Last night on my APR 93 EDU/TCU tune I did the break torque. I had some wheel spin but 0-60 times using VBOX sport were 3.5s twice. The third time I had so much wheel spin that I let off the gas a bit and that run was 3.8s. So I can't really complain that the APR 93 tune is slow. Hopefully getting your other issues fixed brings back the speed to your car. BTW, are you taking the car back to the dealer with the tune on? If so, there is a chance that you may have to pay for your issues yourself as Audi may give you a TD1.

You can check the number of launches using VAG if you have access to one - to confirm that it's at 200. If it bother's you, the APR TCU tune, as well as others, can increase the launch limit.

With all those codes, it is likely you are running into at least some moderate limp mode. Once fixed/cleared, I'm guessing you'll have improved acceleration.

As stated above, the TCU tune will remedy the max launch issues.

Sorry but your description of "slow" is extremely vague and undeniably subjective. We need logs to give you a definitive answer as to whether your car is actually slower than it should be or slower than you were expecting.

Yes, Ive looked at the TCU tune when I had the APR warranty transfer done, but that seems pricey. Id rather fix my other issue(s) first before diving into that. I do understand that it raises the launch count as well. I follow the directions Ive seen online, ESP is off, but not this "ASR" or whatever it is. I hold the button and nothing changes.

Also, I clear the codes, but they show up as pending right away and then the light comes on after a few more minutes. I really hope this is the issue. Im seeing like 4.1-4.2 0-60 without LC in this 93 tune, and my daily mpg is terrible. I expected better results, both in power and efficiency. I hope I dont have a dud

hey man welcome to the forums

are you sure you dont have downpipes on the car? i know you didnt know about the tune at first so it could possibly have downpipes as well, or maybe it had them and when converting back to stock they did something weird to them.

Maybe it did and they put it back to stock. They at least look original to me. I'm putting the car back on the stock tune prior to me dropping off the car at the dealership for service so it doesnt get flagged.

    Heres a video: https://youtu.be/0i-GkX0qMbk

I have more, but I made sure to edit the video to start me moving at 3 seconds. Most of my launches come in at 4.1-4.2 without launch control. I wanted to see sub 4 without it and 3.5 with it.

Maybe I misunderstood your wording but putting the car on the stock tune of the APR ECU will not prevent getting flagged. You need to flash the ECU back to stock. After getting your issues fixed report back on 0-60 times. On the APR 93 file I get 3.8-4.0s just flooring the gas pedal and ~3.5s with break boost and some wheel spin. I have not yet done a proper launch.

neither do handcuffs with blue accent lights. Seriously, speed is relative. To me, it is plenty fast. I have owned more brutal cars but this car rides the rail. It is like a swiss army knife (It is brilliant with many duties) and I don't have unrealistic expectations. Therefore, I love my S6.

    No, you are certainly right

Was just responding to the OP's original comment about being used to M5's and AMG's. The s6 does not pull as hard at higher speeds comparatively to some of those cars, it just doesn't. Does not mean it's slow.

I personally enjoy that is is more fun in gears 1,2,and 3 as going 140 mph+ on public roads just ain't smart nor my cup of tea

The wastegate on the left side of the photo actuates when the car is on and I rev the engine. The driver side wastegate does not move at all and is very very hard to move manually. I dont think this is right.

Secondly, when I stay in it after 85-90, the EPC light comes on and it sounds like it dumps all boost. I reset the code, and it does this every time at 85-90 WOT.

I did manage a better 60mph pull, but here are some times. Going to the dealer on Monday for the o2 stuff.

Is under 7 seconds to 90 on par without using LC?

Looking at the waste gate actuators, the driver side one is a different style. I thought this was normal, but looking at all the photos I could online, both sides either have a bent rod type actuator or a straight rod. Mine has one straight and one bent. My driver side is the bent style and I don't think this is right. It's like the arm is too short and pulls the actuator in and holds it.

I did what I could. I bought this out of state. I had the carfax done, talked to my local dealer confirming warranty in place until 7/12/2017 based on the VIN. Has Audi Care until 50k miles. Always serviced regularly, just done at 35k. I went down and looked it over, test drove it, etc. I popped the hood but kept the cover on. Even if I did pop the cover off, I wouldn't have caught the o2 sensors or known about this wastegate issue. It only had 37k miles, and was a southern car, and the interior is flawless. Everything appeared to check out, and i felt I was pretty thorough.

I didnt know it was tuned until after I purchased it and was waiting for delivery. I thought that was a nice bonus, but now at the expense of my remaining warranty and hopefully aftermarket warranty, it's not worth it. Especially with all of these issues popping up.

Did you buy it from an Audi dealer? And is it the original warranty or a CPO?

Did the dealer not know that when you called them about the warranty based on VIN before you purchased the car but now they know? I wonder if the previous owner knew and that is why he/she sold the car? Not sure if you would have much chance of recourse if you bought the car "as is."

It was not an Audi dealer, but they did "specialize" in VW/Audi. They had a few s6's there and an s7 and a bunch of VW's. It was not CPO, but had remainder of factory warranty for another 8 months or 13k miles. I felt comfortable with that and was looking into aftermarket warranties for the long haul, as I purchased this primarily for my work.

I asked my local dealer when they looked up the VIN for any weird issues or concerns and they said no. I didnt want to come out and say TD1, but they gave me the specific history and the exact date of warranty without any mention of a flag. Im going to go over there on my lunch and try to find out more and see what may be covered and what's not.

I began to worry about the reason why someone got rid of this car weeks ago, but now it just confirms it - I picked up someone elses issue. I'd like to get these fixed, as it really is a clean, lower mileage, example. If other things are covered like, alternator, air suspension, electronics, etc - then I can deal with that, but if I lose everything, this thing will be dumped off to another dealer as a trade very soon.

Theoretically, if you return the car back to stock (remove the flash(es) altogether), they should still honor the warranty, but I don't know how you'd get the OEM tune back onto the car unless the tuner kept a copy of the OEM file...
