Brake job cost for labor & fluid?

    Hey guys-

I just ordered the basic OEM brake service kit from ECS to replace the pads/rotors on all four corners of my A4. What should I expect to pay for a local shop to do the install? Any pitfalls to avoid? When I had it checked out a couple months back, the mechanic said the fluid should be replaced too. What'll that add to the cost? I'm not throwing anything special in, since this A4 is my long-haul road warrior (157k and counting!, oil consuming the whole way!).

I've read other threads where guys like me are encouraged to just get the tools to do it ourselves, but that's not on the table for me. Thanks for the input!

I would say you get charged 2.5 hours of Labor average is $65-$85 Per hour at most shops. With the amount of miles you have I do recommend having the fluid changed as well.

Like you have read and others will say, this is super easy with basic tools and a power bleeder.

Yeah I don't think the rear carrier bolts are "super easy". I did mine myself but 140 ft-lb +90 deg on a wheel you can't turn is no joke!

Dealer will want $775 to do rears lmao.

Yes the dealer will want that, and that is at least double what it should cost. Those bolts are not not super easy but not terribly hard with a 24" breaker bar, but "hard" bolts against the right tools should not make the job expensive. With the car overhead and a competent mechanics those bolts will come off in a minute. The extra for the rears might be the standard add-on for using the scan tool to retract the parking brake, still not worth $775 for one axle. Go to a good indy.

You can't really get at the rear bottom bolt from underneath. You need a swivel+breaker bar. Anyway, I just meant that it wasn't trivial as a diy. The fronts are way easier imo
