Question RE: Big Brake Kits (BBKs)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So, I am admittedly ignorant when it comes to Big Brake Kits. Why is it that all these kits are only for the fronts? What about the rears? I know that people have matched things up on their own. My question is why there aren't four wheel kit options?

I have installed aftermarket slotted rotors and put on ceramic pads but kept the stock calipers (painted them black at least). I've been interested in going BBK but want a complete four wheel solution. I get that rears can be different sizes from the fronts I guess.

    Flame away.

Answer is simple, about 80% of the braking is done by the front brakes, and in order to do our rears it can be a PITA to mess with the OEM electronic parking brake for only a minimal gain in brake power.

That I knew. My question is more about a kit that matches the style (not necessarily size) of front and rear. You'd get two front rotors, calipers, etc. and the matching style (make, color, etc.) rears in one kit.

Here's a little build for you. The links have all the info you're looking for. This kit I did is also the most cost effective for the $$. The main BBK thread shows others able to get it a little cheaper by getting pieces separate.

Cool, thanks! I'll check it out.

Still wondering why it has to be "pieced together". Maybe there isn't a real answer. The question is more about marketing I suppose. Maybe it's because there is too much variability car to car, model to model to make a four wheel kit viable.

Huh? Pieces separate..... as in pads, rotors and calipers. It's something cheaper to buy the stuff that would be in a kit on their own to save money.

Anyone know if the stock fronts will fit on the rear without an updated caliper carrier?

Does the Front Caliper Line up to the rear, basically can you put the fronts on the rear without a custom caliper carrier? I am planning on doing the Q5 Calipers on the front, and I get that you could no longer have the Parking Break, I plan to code it out with VCDS.

There are a few folks who have done the rears and removed the parking brake functionality. A guy from the B8 S4 Forums placed his in the trunk so he wouldn't throw error codes. I met a guy here in the Denver area with a white S4 that removed his rear calipers completely and just deals with the error codes as I remember. He put on the Brembo http://www.gmpperformance.com/index....ail&PID=335925

The rear brakes get a bit of work done, but I just did the S5/S4 rears and called it a day. They don't look as nice as the calipers on other brands, but again they get the job done without messing with the EBC and figuring out a work around.

One thing I have noticed is the Q7 comes with a nice looking rear caliper and I was wondering if there might be a way to adapt that part? Still issues with the EBC will remain.

Reason why Porsche with the Macan just decided to keep the same rear brake setup... Too much too redevelop and change
