Lost functions on swapped steering wheel

i REPLACED the steering wheel in my A3 with a S3 flat bottom wheel when i got the car- July 2016 - Just had a 5000 mile service and dealer did software upgrade. Lost all functions in wheel and lights. Dealer told me that it the software has to be upgraded again to this wheel but they cant do it because they dont have the codes since its a replaced wheel.is this true? Also- Any idea how much to get this done?

Sounds like they ran an SVM update and it blew out the changes you made when you installed the new steering wheel. Who installed the steering wheel for you?

Local independent audi mechanic. I told him he says it may not work this time which I find hard to believe. How hard is it to redo and any thought on costs.

Do you have your old wheel? If so, swap out the controls from the old to the new S3 wheel. Should fix as it will be using the original equipment.

Yes. I do. However the new wheel has paddles which aren't working either and old wheel doesn't have paddles.
I will try that regardless and see what happens. I would imagine not hard to remove those
    Thanks

Just change the front buttons... They are two pieces and the paddles will plug into them as well. Hope it works for you!

UPDATE!! so the buttons are part of the entire inner ring. It is all one piece. I removed the inner ring of my old wheel. The started to pull airbag off of the new flat bottom already installed. Pulling the airbag off any of these steering wheels with the clips is not as easy a task as made out to be. WARNING! Anyone pulling airbag off!! Disconnect the battery first. Anyho. After finally getting airbag off ( whew) and pulling the inner ring off new flat bottom wheel and disconnecting all the connectors including the paddles LOL and behold- although the old wheel certainly had the connector locations for the paddles it most certainly did not have the female connectors. So! Time to put everything back together! WOA! What's this connector from all the wheel electrics to the car? DEALER NEVER CONNECTED IT! I did! Everything connected carefully replaced and guess what!!! Connected battery and EVERYTHING came back!!!! Now I'm in line for a dealer in central Jersey that actually has techs that have a clue!

Glad you got it figured out and it was a rather "simple" but extensive fix. Enjoy those paddles!
