Hey allz,
I have a visual confirmation of a crack in the (stock) turbo. 115k miles, APR 91. About two months back I noticed a significant reduction in power, then accompanied by a CEL and P0299. Local shop found the crack in the turbo and diagnosis ended there. The P0299 recurs readily on any drive with moderate acceleration. I think this part of the equation is probably simple: replace the turbo.
However, not too long after the P0299s began showing up, I also started getting CLOSE FUEL TANK CAP, pretty regularly. The car failed emissions today and the codes were P0299 (expected) and P0455 & P0456.
Before replacing the turbo, I'd like to boost my confidence (see what I did there?) that this could also be the cause of the probable EVAP issues. Replacing the turbo is too much $$$ right now, but driving with expired tabs isn't a good option either. If it's likely the EVAP issues are worth troubleshooting separately to address the emissions issues, then I can deal with the turbo after a few more paychecks.
TIA & mahalo,
