My cylinder heads were resurfaced. So I'm going to put my B6 back together tomorrow since I have the day off. All the valves are closed.

    Bentley

Turn engine until cams (ARROWS) at intake and exhaust camshaft of #3 bank 1, point upward uniformly.

    Ok...

What do I do for bank 2, drivers side? The Bentley doesn't say.

Couldn't you leave the belt off, get the cam lock tool in place on each head...they only go on one way so you know its right, then put the belt on?

Looks like you will do the same on the opposite side. Here's the ElsaWin version of the job. Click

They only go one way? You sure? I'm thinking I could rotate 180 degrees wrong direction. That's what I'm afraid of.

YES, so which cams will be pointing up on bank two??? #6?? That's my question.

Hmmm, maybe. Its been too long since I did the timing belt. As long as your crank didnt move I think it would be fine. Follow the manual then try putting on the locks to confirm.

The cam lock tools go on only one way. The flats where the tools install on the cams are tapered. I think SJorge confirmed this but I haven't found the thread.

Since cyl #3 is TDC on the compression stroke and firing order is 1-4-3-6-2-5, I'm guessing cyl #5 will be TDC (just ending exhaust stroke) and thus have both valves closed (cam lobes pointing up).

Put the locking tools on before you put the heads on the block. Make sure the crank TDC position is set correctly and you will be ok.
The directions don't mention the driver side cam position because they refer to when the engine is assembled and the belt is in place. If the passenger side is correct it follows that the driver must be in the correct position also.

ps. if you have the extra cash available and they have not been changed in a while swap out those O2 sensors while they are right there in the open.

Came here to say the same thing. Good luck with the reassembly!

If the cam lock tools make installing the heads a pain, these steps may be an option that avoids smashing valves:

    1. Rotate crankshaft until NO pistons are at TDC. This provides clearance for the valves later. A smart person would probably stop the crank about 90 degrees before TDC on Cyl #3.
    2. Install heads without cam lock tools.
    3. Install cam lock tools.
    4. Rotate crankshaft to TDC on Cyl #3.
    5. Install crankshaft lock pin.
