2001 S4 Won't start...EPC light on, Check engine light on and car won't even crank

As the title states I can not start my car.

I just bought the car a week ago and drove it 850 miles home and started it plenty of times. Drove it to my brothers house last night and I come out to go start it and nothing happens. The EPC light is on as is the Check engine light. The battery light is also on. But we put the battery charger on it and put it on "jump start mode" and nothing still happens.

The vdo screen says push clutch to start. I am making sure the clutch is all the way to the floor. Still nothing. I unplug the upper clutch switch and jumper it and nothing still happens. I am getting 12.3 volts to the starter.

I am borrowing a friends VAG com cable tomorrow so I will be able to read the codes then.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

The car is up on jack stands right now and I am getting ready to pull the starter out.

I will try to clean the terminals on the starter and go from there.

Please help me so I don't start hating my S4 in less than a week of ownership.

    +1 on neutral safety switch

When the key is turned all the way to start position it sends power to a relay via neutral safety switch. Other than that it's a direct link.

I've bricked a ecu before and it would still crank

Thats what I originally thought as well. Its the little black one on top right? I did the whole jumper thing with the plug using a paperclip once and a solid coper home wire and neither time it made a difference.

I am starting to get a little frustrated as I took the battery in and had it tested and it came out fine. I took the starter in and had it tested and it worked fine. I took the alternator in to have it tested and it worked fine as well.

It weird that I had this problem before at my parents house and we jumped it with my Dads chevy truck and it worked fine. But we could not jump it with my brothers tacoma or with the battery charger and "jump mode" which is 225 amps and bumped it up to like 16 volts.

I tried to hardwire the starter off the car and It did nothing but at auto zone it worked just fine.

    Im confused

Well crap. The only thing it could be would be the wire to the starter. Or the key switch itself. I am really at a loss,

You could try running a hot wire to the starter and use a push button switch. That would let you know if you ignition switch was bad.

I am not 100% sure but think our cars will always crank. No matter what cel or code it's throwing.

It's not even cranking at all. I. Going to get a new battery tonight and just ordered a mew to me starter from audis4parts. Also got the oil level/temp sensor to get rid of that one fault code.

If this stuff doesn't work I'm going for a new ignition switch

I'm still going to try to jump the starter the way the previous post described. We will see!

    IT WAS THE GROUNDING STRAP!

After all of that work I did I took the ground strap off and cleaned all the ends of everything involved and boom. Starts every time now.

Since I have it apart I'm going to bake and paint the headlights black and remove the amber corners. I got some of the black chrome spray cover so hopefully it will still be able to reflect the brights. We will see.

Thanks to everyone who chimed in and helped out.

I feel like an idiot. But oh well it runs

Why do you get pulled over in junction.

Actually now that you mention it I can see it. I got pulled over twice last week because I didn't have plates. One time was coming home from picking up the car. The other time was heading to the DMV to get plates.
