Paint Correction Immediately After Taking Delivery

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am quite OCD about my paint and have done several paint corrections to my cars and to a few others. This is my first time ordering a car brand new, I have always bought used and have had to do paint correction thereafter.

My question to those who have taken delivery of an ordered car: What has been your experience with the paint on a new Audi? I've seen videos of cars being delivered to dealerships completely wrapped from the factory. I plan to intercept the car before the dealership can put their hands on it, potentially adding to possible imperfections. I will be either doing a full body xpel wrap or just the entire front end and other needed miscellaneous areas. I am curious as to what type of paint correction, if any, will be necessary prior to putting protective film over the paint.

    Any insight would be helpful!

Definitely make sure the dealer doesn't wash the car prior to you picking it up. If you have a competent detailer, they should know how to handle prepping the vehicle for PPF.

Any reasonable dealer should be happy to leave the car untouched. Assuming shipping/port transit went fine, you shouldn't need much more than a quick DA polish and wash prior to PPF.

Check production date of car. It takes 3 months for paint to completely harden.

Worth adding the GM of the dealer is my best friend. They know not to touch the car, especially the paint.

A reputable PPF shop will able to prep the paint accordingly before applying film?

I actually had my detailer take delivery and bring it to his shop to actually prep the car and had it opticoated. Just told the dealership my request to not prep or touch the car as someone will come pick it up. Car still looks like new today almost 2 yrs later, those ceramic coatings are great. They have become even better since that time, now I have second car coated in arctic coating. Even if dealer washes and preps the car it should be fine, they can't mess it up too badly, you might need a very light paint correction if your OCD.

Yeah, you shouldn't need much correction but probably a little here and there! Just drive it to your detailers with the white wrapping all over it. Ive always wanted to do that.

That would be awesome! Only thing is, I live in Houston and the dealership I ordered the car from is in California (buddy is the GM). So I will be flying out to see the car and take delivery, loading it on an enclosed transport to be driven to Houston, then fly back.

Some of these very things were addressed in this video. Enjoy.
Do it right, or don't bother.

I asked my dealer not to touch my car in regards to the cover/tape/detailing.

When I picked it up it still had the white stickers all over it. I drove it straight to NorthWest Auto Salon in Seattle and had them do a full detail and clear bra.

That seems like the best approach. Thanks for the responses!
