Isn't this almost the same as a S7? What's the point?

maybe somewhat smaller and comparatively more nimble and cost effective? too bad the front end is terrible... can't imagine it would look much better in person.

I like how Audi took the A4 and made it its own coupe, the A5, and now they're taking the A5 and making it into a 4 door, like the A4...also, I looked at the specs, the A5 sportback doesn't have a vastly amount of more interior space than the A4, so why not just get an A4 which I'd assume would be cheaper.

Interesting. Well, I am glad they finally brought one to the U.S but curious on pricing compared to the S4 or S6.

I am as well. I've been hoping to see them here for a long time. I'm hearing around $6-7K more than a like S5 coupe.

B8.5 s5 coupe actually is a little bit more expensive then the sportback version on other markets. So I'm guessing b9 sportback should be around the same price as the coupe if not a tad lower.

In Europe the A5 was released in sportback variant for the B8 platform as well. However Audi encountered issues with pricing, the A5 sportback wasn't too much more than the A4 (relatively speaking), causing the A5 SB to outsell the A4. I can't site numbers, however many clients have said this and in my own travels, I'd have to agree.

My guess would be that Audi has seen BMW's success with the Gran Coupe lineup (and other slant back sedan variants) and will price the S5 SB as a premium option over the coupe. Granted, this is more of a guess than anything else but I can't imagine them not mirroring BMW to an extent here.

Not that what happens in the UK is any guide to what happens in the US, but the B8.5 S5 coupe was about 2% more expensive than the sportback. Strange considering that the coupe is shorter with fewer parts. Currently the B9 S4 coupe and sportback are the same price.

As for why anyone would buy an S5 sportback over the S4 sedan, for me the choice was clear - to me the S5 is a far better looking car than the S4 and also has the edge on practicality for luggage. The downside is that the B8.5 S5 sportback is only a 4 seater, but I understand that the B9 has 3 rear seatbelts.
