    Hi Gents,

Im getting myself the B7 rs4 this friday, and i would like to know what the fuel consumption are like and maintenance?

Im trading my bmw 320i for the rs4 but im a little afraid that my wallet is going to run dry real soon

I get 17ish on avg in my s4 driving with a decent mix of hwy and city and trying my best to hypermile. On only hwy I can push 24ish. Again hypermiling.

Prem unleaded where I'm at is 2.60ish on avg and a tank is roughly $40, filled about every week and a half.

If you're worried about the money, you probably shouldn't buy the car. My .02

I am certain that the consumptions are higher than my bmw 320i, but ive been told i can get almost the same mileage out of it if i keep my foot of the gas.

Another small concern i have about this car is that when i took it for a test drive, i heard a little click sound everytime i pull away in first gear.
The dealer says it the Quattro system engaging and that it is perfectly normal to hear that sound.
    Is this true?

Do you also have a click sound when pulling away in first gear? Sounds like something is hooking in place to move the wheels

NO CLICKING WHEN IN FIRST GEAR. The Quattro system is "full-time all-wheel drive"; it does not "kick in" it's always on. I'd say that clicking noise needs to be investigated- because there isn't much on these cars that is cheap to fix.

As far as fuel economy is concerned- mine spent last year as a daily driver and clocked 20k miles at about 16-17 mpg combined. That's dealing with morning and evening Chicago traffic. When I purchased the car and drove it back to IL, I was able to get 19 avg: that was all highway/back roads. Good luck keeping your foot off the gas though....with this V8 in front of you....yeah, let me know how that works out.

    Thanks guys!

    Really appreciate the comments!

Regarding the clicking noise, an Audi specialist says it is normal and nothing to worry about... but im still a bit worried.
Keeping my foot off the gas is definitely gonna be a huge challenge, no doubt about it!

Cant wait till Friday to go pick my monster up and start driving it around!

Sounds like something moving around, perhaps a bad engine mount causing excessive movement of the engine? Idk. If you have a vcds try plugging in to the car and reading all error codes. The Audi specialist is full of shit haha!

    Since I bought the car, I'm averaging around 14 mpg (20 L/100km).

It's not a cheap car to run.

Maintenance has been very straightforward so far. I flushed all fluids (brakes, clutch, diff, tranny, power steering, coolant), did an oil change, and replaced my torque mount with the 034 one (original ended up being fine). I'll be due for brakes and tires next year, which will be around $2.5k (35k-40k Rand since you're in South Africa) total.

Again, the original MSRP on these cars was close to $80k with all options, so the maintenance and other running costs are commiserate with that original amount.

I average around 12 in city, (JHM full exhaust & tune). You can average 20+ on the highway if you baby it but it's hard too not want to hear the RS4's awesome sound.

That clicking you hear is probably just "awesome mode" engaging, since you are obviously buying a special edition that comes with that "normal sound". That must be an option that wasn't available on most models. Lucky!
As far as fuel economy, I can easily get 24mpg (downhill, strong tailwind). I average 11-13, and that may even be generous.

I get worse mileage in the RS4 then my 06 range rover on 22" wheels with mud tires (Heavy AF).. The rs4 gets terrible mileage but i don't care nor would i trade it for anything!

Swimming must be a task with at least one foot being so heavy. Or is it the classic case of it being "uphill both ways"?

Guys, I went to get her yesterday, and I only drove a few miles, but one thing is for sure.. This thing is thirsty... But, even though I will spend most my drinking money on her... It's worth it

Best I could get on my S4 was 18mpg highway...6th gear is just too short. 12-14 around town. The RS4 is a better motor and I'm betting 20ish highway, 17 around town....No worse then a Tahoe.

To use it properly, you will rarely see mpg above 15. Maintenance is hugely expensive and there are numerous trouble spots. If you have your hands on a good, clean RS4, it is all worth it.

I agree, the only complaint I have on mine is the smile on my face every time i put my foot on that gas... One thing tho is the cost to replace the 02 sensors on this cars are a bit pricy because of the location of the connectors on the rears.
