    Aftermarket Subwoofer and Amp

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi guys! I have a 2016 A6 but posting here since some of the features on our cars are the same. Looking for suggestions regarding the subwoofer and amp you guys have used. I am thinking of just pulling the stock blowse sub and dropping in an aftermarket sub in its spot on the rear deck lid. Not looking for head pounding bass. Just looking for clean and crisp bass that'll help improve the overall sound quality. Thanks in advance folks!

sounds like you don't listen to Hiphop or Reggae , that case i would suggest the Morel SC Ultimo, Image Dynamics IDQ, Rainbow Amboss, Resonant Engineering SEX v2 .. they are SQ based Subs not SPL Subs

my go to sites for Subs are http://www.sonicelectronix.com/ and http://www.woofersetc.com/

We actually listen to a whole mix ranging from rock to edm. But the way it sounds on the home theatre, everything is so muffled on the stock bose . The amp and pos sub are the biggest culprits.

    That really helps. Thank you.
I was actually pointed towards the JL 8w3v3 along with a rockford fosgate R500X1D . But I am confused regarding the sub- since it will be a decklid install, I suppose I'd need a free air sub and afaik the 8w3v3 works good in enclosures.

I happen to have a Morel Ultimo 10" for sale. I upgraded to third 12", which is the only reason I'm selling.

    PM me for more info..

I love the 8w3 and use one myself in my S4, but it won't sound good in a free air application. You would need to find a free air designed driver, or have something custom made for your trunk pocket. I doubt the A6 trunk is the same shape though as the A4/S4, so I'm not sure what options you have available for that.

Everybody raves about the 8w3. I am still contemplating. I talked to crutchfield just now and they said that the kicker 40cws82 will be great for free air application.

JL Audio is a marketing giant .. you will find better performing subs at the same price .. but a lot of people love JL because it's all they know.

80% of the music I listen to is Hiphop/Reggae/Top 40 remixed to EDM but I'm a heavy bass lover so I didn't suggest my sub

The Kicker Q10 sounds really nice with a strong enough amp to drive it. It's a bit spending $450-$500 and it requires at least a 12x9.5x9.5 box (sealed). I don't listen to hip-hop or booming base. I favor a flatter base that comes from older/softer rock music. The Q10 takes to that type of base very well.

I understand that. I suppose I would need a free air or infine baffle subwoofer since I am thinking of installing it as a direct replacement of the blowse sub on the rear decklid.

Free Air sub is recommended but not required, with a good spacer ring the trunk is going to act as your sub box

Good to know that. Nobody actually told me this so its very helpful. I should stick with the 8in size since I am just looking to replace the 8in stock sub, right? Can you recommend a good 8in sub with a good amp? I do plan to add the LC2i to improve the signal.

I have actually thought of the subs in an enclosure. But we travel a lot in my A6 so trunk space is important :-(

Sub choice will depend if your using an amp which I recommend to do

Pretty sure its an 8in sub in my car. Its the same on the A6 and A7. Also- I would be adding an amp to run the sub.

Used the A4 thread for my upgrade too. Dropped the Pioneer sub into the stock location and its working through the B&O amp. For 60$ all in its a great upgrade for the buck.

I bought a used 10" alpine type r box and cheap amp all together off craigslist like 6 years ago and I must say it is arguably the best mod I've done to date. It can utterly crush you if you so desire or simply provide a still supple helping of bass when turned down. Highly recommend adding more bass to the stock set up.

I totally believe you. The stock bose just blows. Which is why I am looking for a decent sub and amp to improve it to a decent level. Still not sure on which sub to get since I am thinking of just replacing the bose sub on the decklid. Crutchfield guys advised a kicker free air sub with a kicker amp.. another option is to get an infinite baffle sub and a decent amp. Last option is just an enclosed sub like a lot of you guys have resorted to.
