    Deeper Sound for B8.5 S5

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey all,

I have a stock 2013 S5 and I'm looking to swap out the exhaust. The car is completely stock and I am just now starting to do a bit of research on my options. What I'm looking for is a deeper sound rather than much louder. Based on what I've been reading up, it seems that a lot love the sound of the AWE touring exhaust with the resonated downpipe for less drone and slightly quieter overall sound. Others recommend adding a high flow cat to that. I don't hear of many people swapping in just a DP but have heard that is an option as well. Open to recommendations as far as companies and setups, feel free to post videos of your setup if you have them!

Side Note: If you are in the northern VA area and participate in car meets, I would be happy to meet up and talk in person as well.

Touring alone should suit you perfectly. No need to drop the extra bucks for the res DP to quieten it down more. Drone will be super minimal.

Not sure how well this will upload, but heres a Cellphone video clip of my custom exhaust.
Basically, Non-Resonated Downpipes into a Resonated X-Pipe to kill all drone, Straight Piped the Center Resonator, and finished with 2 Magnaflow Mufflers into Quad 3.5" tips.

You're right, seems like AWE is great at practically eliminating drone without the DP. Are there any other benefits as far as a deeper sound to adding the DP? Definitely leaning towards just the touring exhaust as of now.

I think you'd be happy with the touring AWE and resonated DP, since you're not looking for a louder exhaust, but you want it a bit more throaty.

I have Touring with OEM DP on my SQ. I'd not want it any quieter TBH. Very happy with it! I'm not an expert on that setup, but a bit deeper, quieter of course, and a bit more power. I imagine it being extremely quiet inside unless you're really asking for it. I'd be happy to provide a quote. And I can get detailed info from AWE regarding exactly what you'd expect from that setup.

MRPANDA's custom setup sounds pretty nice. Or there's the Milltek non-resonated (also in that thread).

When you replace the exhaust system does it disconnect the Soundaktor or do you have that still going on over the new exhaust or do you have to actually disconnect it?

I believe the system is located in the same place as most VWs that have it which is right under the windshield. Shouldn't play a part when getting a new exhaust installed.

Heres a vid showing where it is on the Golf R: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WOTw_lIoKw

I recently switched to the awe touring exhaust. While it does sound pretty good, I don't think the tone is exactly what I was looking for. I too wanted a deeper sounding note.

The exhaust thread on that someone posted above me might help. Another user ditched the awe touring because he wanted a deeper note. He ended up with the milltek exhaust and loves it. I'm considering it too but want to hear it in person first
