    C7 (S6/S7) to Porsche 911?

I know they are completely different, but has anyone gone from a C7 (S6/S7) to a 911? I've been thinking about a 911 cab for a while, might be a good time before the refreshed S6/S7 models are out (and re-sale value on my current car drops).

My opinion.... owning a 911 as your only car gets tiring very quickly. Going from the S6 (and previously macan/a7), I would budget for a cheap SUV as well if you pull the trigger on the 911.

My wife has an ML350 for when we carry the kids around. The Macan was my attempt at the 911 experience without the inconveniences that came with a 911, but it didn't work out too well (felt too much like an SUV). What would you say about owning a 911 is problematic? The maintenance cost or just using it as a DD?

I just dealt with this dilemma..it was either a slightly used 911 4s and a beater honda or my S6 since I spend more time in my car then I would like I ended up going with the s6 since its a car I can enjoy every day...after the s6 is payed off in 3 years ill be doing a used R8 or a 911 what ever feels better at the time

Anything else worth considering if I want a sporty 4-seat cabriolet? I know the refreshed RS5 cab and 650xi is around the corner.

Lol at 4 seats in regards to a 911.

My friend and I swap my S6 and his 991 C4S fairly often and I love both cars, but for different reasons. They're not even comparable from a DD perspective IMO. Only you can make this decision.

Need to have the option of fitting 2 kiddies in the back in emergencies. The idea behind the S6 was that they'd be there often, but they've only been in my car once in the last 1.5 years.

Its just utility or lack there of... It might sound trivial, but you cant fit anything in them. Ive given into the fact that (again my opinion and in my situation) if you have kids and are a home owner its just not feasible without a 3rd vehicle in the mix.

How old are your kiddos? Car seats are impossible in a 911, especially 2. You can squeeze one very narrow one in behind the passenger seat with the seat moved all the way forward. It takes some yoga moves to get them buckled in. Avoid this senario at all costs! If they are old enough to ride without a car seat the 911's rear seats are about a perfect fit for a 7-10 year old. You will still have to move the front seats up considerably but it will work.

Good point. 2 years old and 3 years old. I remember reading that it's possible to fit forward-facing car seats in the back, but I definitely need to look into that a little more. I prefer my seat moved forward, so there should be some space in back, but good point.

I came out of a 911 Turbo Cab into this car. I wouldn't go back for all of the money in the world. I have two kids that were only to use the car in "emergencies," which happens way more than you think. There is zero back seat in a 911, unless you and your passenger are about 5'4" tall. There's no trunk space, it's hard to carry on a conversation on a phone, the maintenance is just as expensive or more, I could go on and on.

HOWEVER, I still have a 911 Turbo Coupe in addition to my S7, so I sold one to get the S7. I understand wanting to have something sporty and smaller to drive beyond the Audi too. I just would never ever go back. My wife no longer bitches at me about putting the kids in the car too :)

I'm currently planning on trading the RS7 for the 991.2 GT3 that I have a deposit on (assuming VIPs don't take all the dealer allotments, I'm 4th in line). I agree that another more practical car is a must if you have kids or need the back seats at all. I think it would be a giant PITA to try to get car seats in and out of the back of a 911. We are a few years out from kids so I plan to just use my 4Runner when I need the extra room and then get a nice daily a few years down the road.

Thanks for the feedback. How's pricing on the GT3? Any discount off msrp?

Not sure yet...they haven't "officially" announced the 991.2 GT3 or MSRP yet but I would imagine MSRP will be starting around $140-$145K. Definitely no discount off MSRP but I did secure MSRP. Given the high demand and long lists for the GT3 and GT3 RS, many dealers are selling at a premium and I doubt any are selling at a discount. There is a chance they could announce it at the LA Auto Show but I suspect it won't be officially released until Geneva next March. It's a car I've wanted for years and with the rumors of the 4.0L and 6 speed manual from the 911R, I don't think I can pass it up.

I ran the S5 Cabriolet for 2 years when my kids were 8 and 10. I modified just about everything I could on that car and it was loads of fun with plenty of room.

I always thought of the 911's rear seats as a nice place to lay a briefcase or an envelope. Seriously, not people though. I second the idea of getting a a cheap SUV or some other family hauler alongside the 911. Good luck.

I bought a s6 back in 2013 when the c7 first came out, and wound up selling it a year later to buy a 911 turbo S. It wasn't that I wasn't happy with the s6, it just did everything so well that it got boring to me. I literally regretted selling the s6 every day until earlier this year when I was able to get an s6 to keep the 911 company without feeling guilty. If I had to choose only one, it would be the s6 (or a rs7). As a third car, 911 all day. As you primarily and only driver, I wouldn't do it.

Go to Rennlist and search- there are threads for car seats for the 911 (I am guessing you are looking at the current 991 generation). The site is a amazing amount of info (I have been lurking for a while for the day I get out of the city and have a garage for a 991 C4S).
