    Hey all-
Really love reading through thread! amazing how much knowledge is traded on here.
Just looking for some advice here, looking to trade my 2012 Audi s4 and stay within the audi family. Budget wants to stay between 50-55k
I guess my question is, would you look new? or would you go for a pre owned? I love the car but i am just looking for a little more power/more updated interior
    Thanks for all your advice

You can get a lot more power for far less then 50k, I understand wanting the updated interior though.

I drove a stock 2017 a4 Quattro yesterday with an apr tune. It's faster than my 2015 s4. Real quiet too. Something to consider

But in all seriousness, the only way to get an "updated interior" is to go for one of the new models, which would put the s6 out of reach according to price.

Wow that fast? I wonder how a b9 A4 stg 2(when released) will perform compared to stg 2 b8.5 S4

Agree, used S7 but your proposed price range might not support it. Funny but I still think the interior in S4 holds it's own with most out there.

those are fairly torquey cars if i recall correctly 400awtq tuned? maybe i'm off but it may feel faster, not entirely sure that it is but that's awesome nonetheless! I was not moved by the stock a4 i drove.

Not sure on the power just remember being really surprised. The b & o stereo in the 17 A4 is better than my 15 s4's too

Not sure what mods you have on the S4 now...but if you are looking for a bit more power, but need the extra space, then a slightly used A6 3.0T wouldn't be a terrible idea, then go Stage I. Otherwise CPO S6

For what you are looking for otherwise I would have to agree with a B9 A4...kind of...the electronic upgrades are nice, the interior is a personal preference thing, but where they did a good job on one thing, they kind of missed the mark and had it done better in the B8/B8.5. The chassis is great though...engine and transmission are nice upgrades over the B8/B8.5 A4's

Wow, that's surprising to hear. Makes me kind of want to skip an S4 for now. I may go the more extreme route and get a CTS-V. If I decide it's too much, I'll sell it in a few years and get a used 2017 A4 and tune that ha.

    Agreed. I think the B8.5 S4 interior > B9 A4.

If go with A6 3.0T, just keep in mind most C7.5 cars can't be tunned. I would go S6. You get the power and much nicer interior over your current S4

You can go with a new (or close to new) B8.5 S4, a very nice certified S6 or you may want to wait until spring for the release of the B9 S4?? Bottom line is that you have options, the S6 is going to be the biggest upgrade but it's a bigger car (and drives like such). Do what fits you best, good luck in whatever path you choose to go down!!!

Turbos often have the feeling of being faster but without 0-60 and 1/4 times it's just seat of the pants. Unless your S4 is stock then perhaps.

OP I'd look at used S6's. Nothing else will be an upgrade in that price range.
Or go stage 2, upgrade to flat bottom steering wheel, Short shifter (if you have a MT), some suspension - all for WAY less than 50k and the car will feel entirely different. Not to mention way more fun to drive than a big boat S6.
Trading in on a B8.5 is a waste. The car is essentially the same.

    ^^^^This.

I passed on a C7 S6 for my current B8.5 S4 and saved 10K. Stage 2 on the S4 and the power is comparable if not more. StopTechs are a really nice addition too.

While I agree you can get comparable "straight line" performance from an S4 compared to an S6, there are many other details to the S6 that make it a significantly different car. It is on another level of luxury, fit, finish and options. It also is a monster in stock form, a simple stage 1 tune has it well into the 11 second range. With that being said it's a bigger car and such handles like one, it's refinement has it not feeling as fast as it really is. Bottom line it's an upgrade from an S4 but if you like the smaller, tossable feel of your S4 you may want to keep that in mind.

I recently made the decision to extend the warranty on my 2013 S4 after driving the S6 and S7. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing not to love about both cars but my car is low miles, it's been paid for and I wasn't excited by the S6 enough to drop another $30K on it over the S4. I have an 18 month old daughter right now, if we had another on the way I would have jumped to the S6 no questions. I personally like the smaller, more tossable platform of the S4. I have a 2015 Denali for family hauling and a Z06 for a fun car.... I feel the S4 is the perfect "in the middle" car at this point.
