Question Codes from VCDS - What does it all mean?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to figure out what all this means from Ross-Tech VCDS Lite.

I'll be doing some research too, but figured I would start a thread so I can discuss further with you all.

Original Owner expressed that the O2 Sensor was causing the Engine Light. I don't see that here.

I do want to say that I cleared the codes so they will repopulate as the engine light has been on since I purchased a couple weeks back.
I figure clearing the codes and seeing what comes back might be helpful.

Can you tell me what i'm looking at here? is there anything else I should be doing in VCDS to help me research problems or identify problems?

    Thanks!

Google them and put here what they each mean.

It's usually considered to be in bad form to just drop a pile of codes on someone, and expect them to the do the leg work if figuring out what codes mean what, especially if you're using shareware VCDS.

Take each p code you got and put it into google. One of the first results for each should be a Ross-tech page. The Ross-Tech pages should tell you what the code definition is, what you would be seeing because of that code, and what generally causes the code.

Avant Nate's post is copied from their page, so you can get an idea of what information you'll see on the site.

You'll also be able to find threads posted by people who have had those codes and were unable to solve them with what was in the Ross-Tech page, which can give you some information about indirect causes or uncommon causes for the CEL.

In the time I was writing this, Avant Nate was nice enough to search the codes for you.

Sorry for my "bad form". I didn't get a chance to decode them yet, but I whole heartedly appreciate what you have contributed to this thread.

Let me read up on everything and I'll certainly post back more educated results.

    Thank you!

Ok... so after much reading and searching and using the Ross Tech Lite version I determined that these codes are bogus based on the fact that I ran the car with no guage cluster while it was being repaired. Mind you it was driven just started.

So those are out, but these other 3 I have to work on.

For the N80 I just purchased a new one. We'll see if that makes a difference considering they do go bad.

I have purchased an O2 Sensor and the OEM O2 tool kit so I can replace the O2 sensor, drivers side which looks like it could be difficult, but nothing I can't handle.

    Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) ON
    Possible Causes
    Wiring and/or Connector(s) from/to Oxygen/Lambda Sensor Bank 2 Sensor 1 faulty
    Oxygen/Lambda Sensor Bank 2 Sensor 1 faulty

This last code is causing my Audi to go into Limp Mode so I ordered another from ECS Tuning after reading about the sensor for hours.... there sure is a lot out there on this.

I'll post back some results once I replace the parts and I thank you very much for doing the leg work for me. I learned my lesson ... :)

OP, you followed this advice too correct? You could be chasing phantoms, meaning irrelevant DTCs (diagnostic trouble shooting codes).

All codes came back except the P1650 and P0501.

N75 is over boosting to 24psi should 21 then to 19 on the tune. I think prior owner installed "race" valve from ecs from a first conversation with him I recall something like that. It makes sense for what it costs to replace to try it.

O2 is consistent comes up within hours.

And I haven't ordered the N80 yet but I think I will tomorrow... just need to research it a bit more, but will probably just get it from ECS as they are reputable.

Hopefully it's that easy... but it's a B5 so ... probably not Hahaha.
