    Help, rear brake pads, retracted parking brake, not enough room

    I used Carista to open the electronic parking brake. It made whirling noises, but it's not open enough to fit over the new pads. What to do?

    Once you retract them you still need to compress them normally with a c clamp or brake tool.

    You have to push back the caliper Pistons to have clearance for the pads.

    You can do this by hand, but a cheap caliper spreader works great.

    Also, helps if you release some pressure in the fluid cap. Are you bleeding them too?

    Awesome, thank you. Didn't want to use a clamp as I thought that would wreck it.

    on mine, I had to use a park brake caliper tool that rotated the piston while putting pressure on it. No way that would have happened by hand

    That's odd, sounds like the parking brake didn't retract if you had to turn it.

    I might be missing something, but I didn't put the park brake on when I parked and proceeded to change the rear pads. I just pulled up, cut the car off, put it in gear, and started working on it. Does it retract further or something? If there is something easier that doesn't require me to use the rotating tool, that would be nice

    Our rear caliper pistons don't rotate and you can f them up using the wrong tool.....I think....

    awesome, thanks guys. luckily i've only done it wrong once and don't have any problems that i know of. will definitely do it right from now on. need a good excuse to have a vag com cable anyways
