    Accel and decel whine!

    I don't notice any difference in drivability. But upon acceleration and deceleration there is a sound much like the sound of a failed wheel bearing or a failing transmission gear. It's not so loud that it's staring you in the face. It's probably a five out of ten in the noise Department. I just replace my wheel bearings about eight thousand miles ago with Timken, hubs too. The transmission feels good. So it does sound like the beginning stages of a bad transmission or wheel bearing but I think it's coming from the wheels because if you take the car out of gear you still hear it, sounds like it's coming from the front.

    You have the right diagnosis... If it makes the noise while rolling out of gear then it is most likely a wheel bearing. I've found it sounds like growling more than whining however.

    When you changed your bearings did you put weight on them without the axle stubs in? That is the only way a wheel bearing will last for that short a time. Very strange for them to be giving up so quickly...

    No I never rested them without axles torqued tight... I sure hope it's not that... uhg. But what else could it be... possibly something flung out of clutch and it's hitting bell housing?

    Even out of gear the front diff and the output shaft are spinning, so it could be trans still.


    Good thing about bearing failures is they get louder and it will be more obvious eventually

    It's more pronounced in reverse. Even with the clutch open.
