Need help understanding the fuel tank setup

    Hello,

I need some help understanding the fuel tank setup.
It's a 2005 A4 2.0T Quattro. My low fuel light stays on all the time and the tank is extremely hard to fill. I know that's fairly common.

I took the rear seat off and the panel on the driver side of the car. The fuel level sensor was broken off and just laying in the tank. Ok, that explains the light at least. I think....
The fuel gauge however shows half full after I was able to put some fuel in it. Is there another float on the other side of the tank that operates the gauge itself?
Also, the driver side was very low on fuel. There looks to be a hose coming from the passenger side in the tank to the drivers side. Is there a pump that pumps fuel to the driver side from the passenger side?
I never did take the passenger side plate off. Don't really want to if its not necessary.

    Thanks!

The main low pressure fuel pump is located under the passenger side cover below the rear seat. There is another float sensor there too.

Fuel gets sent from drivers side to passenger side when needed.

How do the two floats interact with each other? Does one measure up to half a tank and the other picks up the other half of the tank, taking the gauge to full?

Not sure if each side is split exactly 50/50 but yes, each float provides a reading and combined they give the total fuel level.

Yeah, it will be an average of the voltages from both.

I'm having similar issues (low fuel light on all the time and fuel level needle staying just below half at all times) I have had my low pressure fuel pump replaced pretty recently so I'm thinking that side should be fine (anyone know what side that is located on?) What is on the opposite side? Just a float?

Fuel pump is on the passenger's side. I think there's a suction jet or something similar that routs fuel from drivers side tank to passengers side tank.
