Bilstein B16 Ride Control Coilover System

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
From what Bilstein is stating,Dampening is adjustable using the Magride control in the car.. Would this eliminate any possible codes using the regular B16s that everyone is running with the KW delete kit ? I thought all coilovers for our cars had to delete mag ride

The Ride Control system has a button and an optional Phone App which allows you to change the settings. It doesn't integrate with the factory Suspension so you still need the KW Delete Kit.

Bilstein is coming out with a Damptronic option, at least for the Golf R, which would integrate with the OEM suspension control. This has not been confirmed for the S3, though. The Golf R DCC is not the same as MagRide.

Bilstein B16 Ride Control Coilover System

That's stupid then, considering they charge $800 more for a app to control it inside the car. I wish they had something like that currently. Ill keep my eyes open to see if they release anything for the S3.

    Thanks

@karbon, I have the ride control now. To use the app, you'd need the IRC which changes the ride modes automatically based on accelerometer inputs... Its an additional $300 or so, but personally not really worth it as 95% of the time you will be in comfort mode.

Haven't seen any systems which integrate with ADS, however been trying to crack the canbus signals from the car too allow the cars to do so.

More install info along with how I put my switch in the car.

What about the KW DDC? I also just saw the Bilstein B14. I assume they're similar to the H&R street.

I can get with Bilstein on the DDC for the S3 if you like.

Nice videos and I appreciate the feedback. The only reason I even considered them was because I thought they integrated with the factory mag ride. I don't really want to deal with the lights coming on the dash,But Im going to have to live with it.

The KW kit that works with DDC I believe is only a 1.2" drop and that isn't enough. 50mm is the least I would do,Only ST and vmax seem to have a 60-65mm drop.

Call bilstein and get them to make a kit if you have it like that lol - I wanted to buy them today tho :)

The KW kit for the DCC only drops to 1.2" because that's what the car is happy with (ride control codes). That is also why their delete module doesn't play nice when going past a certain height.

That makes sense,Considering that's what super sports drop the car to as well with no lights.

I'm still on the fence,I really want Air but I'm not sure if I want to spend 4-5k on suspension right now.

Ha, I certainly do not have it like that. Just saying I could hit up my guy at Bilstein for info on an incoming kit.

That would be good and probably very helpful,If not for me for other members.. I'm going to order something today or tommorrow,I just want to make sure i pick the best setup.

I originally wanted Bilstein B16s because everyone is saying they ride great,However having no camber plates on the front and only offering a 1.9" drop has pushed me to look at other setups.

What do you think of the ST XTA's ?
2.2 drop in rear, 2.4 in front and front camber plates for $1360.. Hard to beat,But i've never been in a car with them.. KW makes them so that definitely gives me a bit more confidence in them

I've heard this from KW too, but there is a guy with the KW KV1 kit that get codes:
    http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...#post101161441

From his description of being "dumped", he probably spun the coils all the way down, past the recommended ride height, but that's a 1.2" drop.

    Yepper, email sent!

Not too familiar, so I hate to comment. "Soft" comes to mind from past experience on B8 cars, but these are damp adjust. Probably pretty good. I'll look out for your order ;)

Ha Thanks man! Ill do some more resarch on them before ordering!

I contacted a vendor to confirm the drop for the ST's,Since it could be for a A3 and not S3.. And they said if i'm looking for a "large" Drop i should go with H&R Street coilovers,As ST is not ideal for a low setup

According to ED's site tho,It's only low on A3's..

    A3: 1.5" - 2.3" Front & 1.5" - 2.5" Rear

    A3 Quattro: 1.5" - 2.3" Front & 1.5" - 2.5" Rear

    S3: 1.0" - 1.75 Front & 1.0" - 2.0" Rear*

My A5 was on Streets for 5 years. Loved them. And I was low, and had room. You saw it. @Karbon

Do you remember how many turns you had on that setup? Trying to gauge a staring point.

There's a Damptronic coilover that's coming out next year as well as a strut compatible with cars with built in adjustable dampers. There's a popular thread in the Mk7 R section of Vortex about it, but I'm not sure if it'll make it for the S3. I don't know why it wouldn't though since it's pretty much replacing the entire strut assembly.
