Hey guys, so I just bought an Audi A4 3.0 quattro with 65K miles on it. Its in really good shape overall but I already did minor things to it like new brakes etc...I still got quite a few things to do but mainly how do I fix a transmission fluid leak from the rear differential and insecure anything I needa look out for like typical issues, bugs, etc while owning it? Thank you

    All Over!

Rear differential oil leaks are usually due to tired shaft seals (driveshaft and axles). Not a massive job, both will involve removing the driveshaft and axles, after draining the oil, then replacing the seals, followed by reassembly, and filling with fresh oil.

When you say "insecure", do you mean the differential has excessive movement? If yes, then it'll need replacement mounts.

At 65,000 miles, your car is just 15,000 miles shy of a timing belt replacement. It's based upon mileage or time, so I would certainly be looking to replace it. Heart-stopping bills if it breaks in service.

    Check this out: DIY-Rear-differential-axle-seals

No need to mess with the outer end of each axle. See last post in link above.

If the timing belt is original, you should change it now based on time, ignore the mileage.

And a water pump, and a tensioner, and coolant. Get this for the coolant. You will need to add equal parts distilled water. DON'T use tap or bottled, just pay the 80 cents or water for a gallon of distilled water. Not sure exactly what parts you need for the timing belt change. It's different from the 1.8T that I have, but you don't want to only change the belt.

You probably also have front control arm replacements in the near future, along with engine mounts and snub mounts. I can't believe you found one with 65k. Take good care of her :).
